DI-524 bios 1.05 disconnects

Posting this info to possibly help others that are experiencing disconnect/reconnects after flashing their DI-524 routers to bios 1.05.

I flashed my DI-524 from 1.03 to 1.05.
I started to experience quick disconnects/reconnects on my Windows XP sp1 system every 34 minutes.

Error message was "A network cable is unplugged" and the connection would reconnect after a couple of seconds. My Event Viewer System log would show Source: Tcpip Event: 4201 every 34 minutes when the auto-reconnect would occur.

Called D-Link tech support..they suggested disabling UPNP in router bios...no affect.

Flashed back to 1.03...no more problems.

I flashed my DI-524 last night and have had no problems. I am also running VoIP service with no ill affects. Seems to work as good as 1.03 bios

I just jacked my cable modem directly into the computer and left the router on for a few hours. Ran cable modem back through router and rebooted computer and the entire problem went away. Could've been a fluke that it fixed it, but hey, whatever works! I was mearly trying to determine that it wasn't my bult in NIC that was going bad. After a few hours of trouble free operation, I re-connected the router for the purpose of rolling back the Bios to 1.03. It was while writing down all my router configs that I noticed it wasn't screwing up anymore. Been working fine ever since.

I've tried the 1.05 firmware three times now, and all 3 times I get the frequent reconnects on my wired and wireless connections. D-Link tech support said the router was doing a "soft reboot" for some reason and suggested I go back to the 1.03 firmware. The 1.03 works great for me, no problems. So I suppose I should abide by the old saying, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.:)

Well, had to reboot my router today after a setting change. Guess what? stupid problem returned! I rolled the firmware back to 1.03 and no problems since.

I've been getting this problem too with 1.05. It's always 34 minutes, plus or minus 5 seconds.

Strange thing is, I've been able to sometimes prevent it for weeks at a time with some magic combination of settings and router rebooting (as-yet-undetermined).

Back to 1.03 right now, but still experimenting...

UGh...I just bought the 524 and am having trouble keeping a connection up longer than 5 min using both 1.03 AND 1.05. This is really frustrating. It's working fined with te wired connections, just the wireless portion is flaky.

I'm using an integrated Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter on my IBM T41p notebook.

The router boasts it can support 802.11b so I thought it would be a no brainer. I disabled uPNP aftrer reading some other postings here and it didn't seem to help. (but you can't even disabled uPNP under the 1.03 firmware)

Any suggestions?

I only got my 524 yesterday, but upgraded to the 1.05 f/w immediately just out of habit. I use iTunes while surfing and have not had any isues of disconnects or soft-reboots.

I have had iTunes "re-buffer" the stream a couple of times, but have never paid attention to the timing (if it is indeed 34 minutes). I did note that while the "re-buffering" was going on, other surfing proceeded as usual, so it must have been an issue with the iTunes site.

I'll keep watching for this, though, and will go with a LinkSys if I encounter problems.

I upgraded the firmware to 1.05 mainly for the XBox live support. Problems are annoying.

Ya know I've had the same problems, and its annoying as hell. Glad to see its not just me I just emailed D-link I hope you have all done the same.

And whats with xbox live compatable? Don't people know how to forward ports? yeah, I got two xbox's and never had live problems with a router, if set up properly.

D-Link responded ASAP While I was still here.

Bill, from your email it seems that your router is rebooting.

You may be experiencing trouble with a feature known as UPnP. This feature allows Windows XP and Me machines to remotely open necessary ports for Internet Applications. You may try disabling UPnP (on the router as well as your computers) to see if this cures your reset woes. Log into the web-based configuration, access the Tools page, then the Misc. button. Choose the disabled button next to UPnP. Click Apply. You should no longer experience the frequent resets.


Still using 1.05 firmware I'll respond if this helps.

Nope stopping UPnP didn't help a bit. Had to go back to Firmware 1.03. Oh fun That's why I got rid of my Linksys. Worked great when i got it. Every time I got firmware I had even more problems..lol

I hate to admit this, but MY problem was resolved by physically relocated the router. I had it on a shelf which I suspect was trapping the signal. It wasn't a full enclosure by any means, but seems to have been enough to screw the signal up. After moving the router out to the electronic tundra that is my desk, everything works great on 1.05 firmware.

my disconnects went away after a re-boot. anybody have issues with distance? if i go more than 12-15 feet away...signal drops. don't really want to buy an external antenna for more than the cost of the router. suggestions?

I have been using firm 1.05 for over a month and haven't any Problem. People please check the Area you are Setting the Router. The Previous post is Correct if you Trapped the Signal, of course you gonna have Constant disconnect.

same issue that you guys are having (w/ 1.03 and/or 1.05). dlink tech said to turn off power management on card and to call back if still having problem.

still having problem... but don't feel like being on hold for an eternity chewing up my day minutes.

the strange thing is i've gone back to plugging into the router with cat5. i thought that for sure would resolve the frequent disconnects but somehow the router manages to drop me even when physically connected - wtf? if i can't find a solution i'm going to have to take this dog back to best buy.

The 1.03 firmware defaults the WAN select speed to 100Mbps. Change it to 10Mbps and most likely you'll be working again. The 1.05 firmware has a new option of "Auto", the default, which means it will detect whatever speed your cablemodem is operating at and set itself accordingly, so the 1.05 firmware appears to work when the 1.03 doesn't. But setting the switch manually in the 1.03 firmware works very well.

Thanks. I did that and 1.03 pulled the WAN address just fine. Now to see if that fixes my problems with the DWL-G510 card.

I initially had problems with distance...I had one box in a back bed room, the router in the front room (approx 50 ft)..signal was usually very low...

moved the router to a more central location (within 15 / 20 feet) and problem was resolved...can run the router at the lowest antenna power output (12.5% 10dbm) with signal strengths always at very good or excellent.

i suspect however, the problem was more of my LinkSYS Wireless G USB adapter on the desktop machine...

I run a Dlink Airplus Xtreme G in my laptop and have never had a signal degredation, even going outside with it in excess of 50 feet from the router at the lowest antenna power output...

So, i think the results can vary based on the config of the router and the adapter you are employing...
