well i dled the 1.11 firmware about a mointh ago and still no improvements i mean the disconnects only happen about 1 a week but in a way that no matter how long i wait it wont reconnect so i have to turn comp off and power to wirles of and then start every on over again. and then when i try to play any game online itll disconnect from the game in like not even 2 mins |

Robb as you have followed this thread, I wanted to add that AFTER I got an RMA to send-back my brand-new DI-524 (buy.com) for its random resets, it occurred to me that: maybe the 524, wired & used as an access point only (no WAN connection) should never have been asked to issue "Static DHCP" at all to my wireless client? My main WAN gateway/router is a Linksys, and altho I have DHCP disabled on the Linky, maybe I should never have asked the 524 to issue IPs? Then again even w/all Log options selected, there was nothing in the log to suggest any problem.
OK so I disabled DHCP completely on the 524, then set the Linky to DHCP an IP to my wireless client (via the 524 I mean of course) and while it worked fine I didn't leave it "up" in this configuration long enough to see if I got any further resets. I'd already bought a new AP today and was anxious to set it up in the 524's place.
This is my final nagging thought about this--I hate to give-up on a product, but I'll be sending the 524 back anyway without doing any more testing.  |

You can also run a software DHCP server, or you can set up the server machine with a static address (where it never asks for DHCP since it is preconfigured).

Well, although the number of resets has been greatly reduced, my DI-524 RevC fw3.02 still does reset itself about once a day. I had taken the cover off also to see if heat was a problem.
Anyway I'm going to return it to the retailer, and probably NOT buy another because I have a nagging doubt about it.
I do like D-Link's "Static DHCP" feature and hope I can find another wireless AP with that... |

For the record, the DI-524 that was previously re-setting frequently is a RevC, 3.02 firmware unit, with 2 hardwire connections, no WAN, and a single wireless-G client using "Static DHCP". As BillW2 said in his original post "hopes this helps someone". Bill it sure helped me! Thanks! |

Excellent!
You may find that the act of applying firmware might solve some settings corruption. This means that you might be able to upgrade back to the next version of firmware if you ever need to.
No need to upgrade unless you are having a problem, however.

No, I didn't mean do you have to reenter your parameters, I meant are there any new ones to enter or have any changed.

This is almost always the case, but there have been a few pleasant surprises.
Best advice: if you have a complicated configuration, print it.

You probably have a DSL modem, and it probably is 192.168.0.1 too.
To eliminate your connection problem, you should put your DSL modem in 'bridge' or 'deliver public IP to computer' mode.

first let me say i hate computers. and computer accessories.
have di-524. worked for 12 months (someone else set it up initially). i believe i may have changed firmware to 1.03 from web site or changed something else and now it stops reacting after 10 minutes or so. tried 1.05 and 1.11. with 1.03 it doesn't discover the wan. (using dsl modem and dhcp setting on di-524). with 1.11 finds but it freezes after 10 minutes i have to press reset button on back and it is fine again after restarting.
tried disabling upnp. no effect. tried show/hide upnp toggling on windows. no effect.
tried bridge setting on dsl modem and pppoe on di-524. not work.
tried reducing antenaii broadcast strength and lowering nic card to 10 Mbps.
it does work fine when i plug the dsl modem to a computer spot on the back (instead of the wan spot). (some reason i want it work the way god intended) (it might take an extra 1-5 seconds to find internet connection when computer starts).
any ideas? |

The DI-624 had this bug too. A later firmware update fixed it.
You can change the behavior by going into Tools / Misc and turning off UPnP support, or you can go into each computer and look at My Network Places. There is an icon on the left under Network Tasks that says "(either Show or Hide) icons for networked UPnP devices." Toggle that setting.

Jump right in to 1.11. I have been using it for over a week and it is very stable with no problems. A number of others have upgraded and reported that all is well.
Seems like D-Link got it right on this one. |

"Has anyone tried the *newest* firmware update, v. 1.11 dated 5-17-2005? I just went back to the site to begin my downgrade back to 1.3 and saw a new one at the top of the list. I'm afraid to be the tester on this one, should have invoked the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule before updating the firmware on mine.
BTW, I'm getting the disconnects on both my wireless and wired computers. |

Without a doubt, this firmware upgrade is solid. I have been running non-stop for a week now and it has never let me down. Fast performance, strong signal and no disconnects. It may be just my imagination, but it seems that I am getting more consistent signal strength since the upgrade. Before the upgrade, the signal strength would fluctuate from Very Low to Very Good without moving the router or laptop PC. Now it is consistently Very Good with no fluctuations. This may be just anecdotal evidence but I am impressed. |
