Re: DI-524 bios 1.05 disconnects

Lock the speed of the NIC to 100 FUll DUPLEx.

I had the same problem. Just got this unit yesterday. First I could not connect at all. Went on D-Link web page to find out that I should get the new Bios. Got 1.05. It was the same problem as with others here. Than I installed 1.03 - so far so good.

Cheers

No, the DWL-G510 keeps disconnecting and changing speeds. I've replaced it with a Belkin card which is running solid at 54 mps. So I suspect my problem wasn't the DI-524 but the DWL-G510.

Ya know I've had the same problems, and its annoying as hell. Glad to see its not just me I just emailed D-link I hope you have all done the same.

And whats with xbox live compatable? Don't people know how to forward ports? yeah, I got two xbox's and never had live problems with a router, if set up properly.
I don't know which ports to forward, and I'm too lazy to figure out Lol.

By the way people. To all that's saying it's a problem for WIRELESS ONLY you're wrong. I'm on WIRED, on this router, and I get the disconnecting.

When I tried the 1.05 firmware I had similar problems, both wired and wireless. The 1.03 firmware is very stable, no problems on either.

I have not even used the wireless connection yet. All my problems with 1.05 were on wired connectiom. With 1.03 for a couple of days now - no problems.

This may help. I talked to DLink support and they recommended making some changes on the Advance tab, then the performance button. These are the required changes:

Beacon interval: 50
Fragmentation: 2304
RTS Threshold: 2304
TX rate: 11

Seems to have cut down on the disconnects.

I upgraded a month ago. This problem appears after I changed some configuration on emule or the router (I don't remember exactly). I haven't tried to roll back to 1.03, but yesterday I just hard reset it and leave standard configuration, and its working fine. I'll will configure again (not just restore the configuration file because I've already try it and the problem reappears) to check if this problem is related to the configuration.

Has anyone found out if there will be a 1.06 firmware? This is a stupid problem to have!

I talked with DLink's tech support two days ago, not in a good mood after discovering all the issues this recently purchased DI-524 had (MAC filter only working with the first entry, reseting under heavy load, even plainly freezing on a Kad search test). The tech told me that there would definitely be (his own words) new firmware releases for the DI-524, but he was unable to provide with an ETA.

Now as to what will be fixed with this router that currently looks like a lemon, God knows. Hoping they fix those stupid bugs, as they seem to be software-related IMHO.

I got this router for about a week, hook it up to my current DI-604 router as an AP. Got the same constantly disconnected problem after updated it to v1.05. I couldn't figure out why (disabled the WZC, install the wireless card latest driver, moved the router around, nothing worked). Today, I saw one of the post and flashed it back to 1.03. The problem seems to disappear so far.

Well, tried to flash back to 1.03, but then the WAN wouldn't connect. So back to 1.05. WAN connects but the 'ole 34 minute disconnect routine continues. Anyone have same issue?

Thanks. I did that and 1.03 pulled the WAN address just fine. Now to see if that fixes my problems with the DWL-G510 card.
You're kidding, right? Unless D-Link comes out with new drivers (Microsoft-certified would be nice, too), the DWL-G510 is just a lemon.

The reason "WAN wouldn't connect" when you flashed back to version 1.03 is because you didn't change the WAN select speed to 10mbps instead of the default 100mbps. The 1.05 firmware defaults to a new "auto" setting.

Thank god for the forums!

I also had the same problem with dropped connections and even now, it's not the most stable. HOWEVER, it is much improved from going back to bios 1.03... thanks for the suggestion. At least, it seems to be working better.

I like the router; but it's really given me a hassle in terms of buggy firmware. My old DI-713p (which is in for RMA service) was SO much more reliable!

If you do reflash back to bios 1.03; remember to set the wan to 10 mbps to work with sympatico dsl modems.

I just bought the 524 with factory installed 1.05. So far so good. Not a single problem on the wired connection with about 7 days use. The wireless seems rock solid too, using WPA-PSK with an Intel Pro/2100 Centrino based notebook. Using WinXP SP2. The router is so cool, tiny little bugger. Got it for $19.99 AR at Fry's. Very happy so far....hopefully I won't jinx myself from posting this.....

I was having lots of disconnects with the 1.05 firmware, the only way to stop it was to disable the wireless, so went back to 1.03 and all is well again. Must be a bug in 1.05

I'm having this same problem with the frequent disconnects. Additionally, I can't get the thing to hold a time setting. All of my log enteries are dated April 1, 2002.

I have noticed, however, that if I'm listening to some streaming media I get no disconnects at all.

I'm thinking of sending the sucker back to newegg.

Ditto to all of the above. Bought mine a few days ago – wish I'd read the reviews on Circuit City's website first! – constant disconnects. Reverting to 1.03 worked fine after dropping the WAN port down to 10 Mbit/s and disabling all the special "features" (hah!) on the Misc tab.

F**k D-Link.
