Re: DI-524 bios 1.05 disconnects

here is the prob for me. i am sandwiched in both ends. if i use 1.03, i would get disconnects because of the overload i get in bitcomet and shareaza and i can t refresh any steam servers. upgrated to the 1.05, yes i can refresh the steam serverlist but i get the 34 reconnects too. the worst thing is, i have to restart taking the queue each time my router reboots. ok.. i ve got enough with queue #2000+

I have the same problem. 1.05 has the disconnect problem, and 1.03 can't handle heavy p2p traffic. D-Link have dropped the ball on this one.

Now looking for a good deal on a Linksys WRT54G.

Recently purchased the 524 with 1.05B preloaded. It was working well the first day but then the second day it kept disconnecting. It got rather annoying so I flashed the firmware back to 1.03. I've tried using WPA-PSK with the 1.03 but it disconnects even more often. So you should use WEP 128 bit with the 1.03, probably the best set up so far until a new firmware is released. I'm using wireless to post this, hopefully the problem is gone.

I was getting so many router reboots it was basically useless. Saved the router settings to hard disk, did a manual reset on the router back panel, restored settings from hard disk, and the router is behaving again. Running 1.03 and no resets since last night

A few hours following the hard reset, the router started random reboots again, every few minutes. Put in a Belkin F5D7230-4 (free after rebate) and no more problems!

DI-524 1.03 was released in, what, January 2004? One year later and the router still doesn't work. 1.05 is unusable.

Pathetic effort from D-Link. I won't be buying again.

Ok everyone who is having disconnecting troubles, read this thread
»Possible fix for DI-524 and Frimware v1.05

I tried it and it's working great so far, been connected for over 2 hours without disconnecting. Using the 1.05 firmware with WPA-PKA.

Okay, so this whacked out piece of shiznit wants to do its thing every 34 minutes. It's not trying to renew the ip address. However, it is trying to make sure that it continually needs to assign an ip address via dhcp. Maybe the time interval for doing so is 34 minutes. I haven't gotten that tecnhical at this point. But I have gone into my firewall (ZoneAlarm-free gratis version) and added the ip for the router 192.168.0.1 into the trusted zones. Been running strong for 24 hours. That is a record for me and for a lot of others from what I can find in multiple forums. I've gone to www.grc.com and run the shields up test and get no issues. So maybe it's worth a try.

Peace

I figured out how to stop the 34 minute disconnects!
I am so happy now!
Heres what i did and i think it will work for you people too.
1. unplug router
2. wrap up the ethernet cable
3. put the cd back in the box
4. put the router back in the box
5. call Dlink customer support to scream (for good times sake) then stoop, laugh and let them know its coming BACK!
6. take the box back to the store that recommended this awful plastic parasite of time and money.
7. give the salesman an evil look, and the customer support person a loving one:)
8. take your refunded money and buy a linksys wrt54g
truth is the linksys is great. using a rca cable modem and comcast Everything connected automaticly. The longest time i spent was reseting the stuff dlink recommended (static ip, switched back to automaticle detect settings for ip and dns #. My laptop connects instantly on wireless, the xbox doesnt disconnect and my home pcs doin great. oh and
9.gloat to the poor sad people that still have that grey garbage box.

LOL..that was entertaining as heck! Myself, well, I'm on day 38 with my 524. I haven't had a single issue with the 1.05. Guess it's luck of the draw with "the gray garbage box". Mine is a keeper.....liking the stability alot!

Just wanted you guys to know that I have fixed my problem. I used to use shareaza but I switched to another P2P program and I no longer have any disconnects. My network has been up for two weeks. I think this may be the case until a new firmware is released. The truth is DLINK and SHAREAZA do not like each other very much, so it is just a suggestion to try. This fixed my problem and if you also use shareaza and have the disconnect blues, maybe try another P2P program.

How well does the WRt54G work with p2p though, like bit torrent.

Or should I just build myself a wrap box with m0n0wall without having to worry about filling up max connections XD.

Here's a thread from eMule forum about how recent versions of eMule cause some routers (including DI-524) to frequently disconnect (every 2-5 minutes) if you have the Kad option enabled.

Thanks to this thread I fixed the ~30 minute reboot cycle by flashing the router with 1.03

But then I noticed that eMule was causing disconnects whenever I have that on. There are detailed discussions on that thread. But basically the newer eMule versions don't play nice with some routers if you set it up to connect to Kad network.

I'm not really the patient type. So I'll return my DI-524 and get a Linksys WRT54G. I read that WRT54G will work with Kad-enabled eMule.

I should add that I don't know whether it was exactly 1.03 that did the trick for me.

I've made so many changes I can't keep track of them all.

But I did the following, if my memory serves me at least half-assedly...

flash 1.03
disable DHCP & static DHCP
configure IP settings manually from each computer (enter IP, mask, gateway, DNS)
and many more!

I don't know if all these were necessary, but I'm not about to spend yet more time trying every combination of the changes. Like I said, I'll be returning my DI-524 in the near future.

Using 1.05, with Emule disable KAD and you'll be fine. My router has been working great ever since.

I can't believe the answer to my problems all this time was flashing to an old version of firmware on my DI-524.

Over the past several months, I have spent HOURS trying to troubleshoot why my wireless connection keeps dropping, and why my DCHP keeps renewing every few seconds. I RMA'd the router. I RMA'd my wireless cards. And then after those efforts didn't work, I RMA'd my entire new Dell laptop to try to sort this out.

Finally I came to this forum and learned what everybody else here seems to already know, that the 1.05 firmware is thoroughly broken and flashing back to 1.03 is the solution.

In all the many times I called D-Link tech support, NOT ONCE did they suggest rolling back to v.1.03 firmware. Why is it that everybody here knows to do this but the company doesn't let on?? It never occurred to me that a final release of a firmware version that had been officially posted since last summer could be the cause of all my frustration. It was only when I finally started shopping for a new router on Amazon that I spotted customer review for the DI-524 pointing me to this forum for the answer.

Tonight, after reverting to firmware 1.03, I am disgusted to find that the DHCP no longer resets every few seconds, and my wireless connection is rock solid, the way it should have been all along. (And for the record, I tried doing a crash reset and re-loading v.1.05 as suggested in another thread, but it didn't make any difference).

One thing is for sure, I will never, ever, *ever* buy another D-Link product again. The company deserves to be hit with a class action lawsuit forcing them to send new, properly-working hardware to all the consumers they have ripped off with their broken product all this time. I only wish I could bill them for all the time I sunk into trying to solve this, no thanks to their so-called tech support department that obviously chose not to admit the real problem.

 Possible fix - DI 524 1.05 disconnects

I have purchased the 524 pre-loaded with 1.05. I noticed two quick disconnects in the beginning when I first setup the d-link. (like a 2 second disconnect). I tried a couple different configurations and I found blocking WAN Ping's resolves the disconnects. I never had another disconnect since and the 524 is keeping very stable. To block WAN ping's go to Tools - then Misc and enable. It worked for me, hopefully other people with have some luck with this setting.

Dead-link

@cable.rogers
I disabled the WAN ping days ago but still getting disconnection and this router's signal is kind of weak.

My router came preloaded with 1.05. When I try to downgrade it to 1.03, it says that there is a mismatch with the settings file and then it seems to fail.

Help!

Re: DI-524 bios 1.05 disconnects

Finding this thread was a big help to me. I have been experiencing intermittent "Network cable unplugged" messages. It was only today that I figured out that the frequency was every 34 minutes. A Google search led me here.

I called D-Link to ask them what they thought of my problem. The technician had no clue. He said that if a web forum suggested that reverting to firmware 1.03 was the solution then, I should revert to 1.03.

I did revert to v1.03, but 34 minutes have not yet elapsed so I do not know if this was the solution. However I am cautiously optimistic.

Thanks, everyone, for your help.
