This one always cracks me up. The Telcos have all the politicians in their pockets, huh? I guess that's why the politicians passed things like the Telecom Act of 1996, which was ooooh-so-friendly to the telcos..
Common sense...
Adam
I dunno, the Telco 1996 sounded bad for telcos, and claimed that would provide for more competition. But it is now 2004, and Verizon is still my only choice for local telco service. I can find a couple DSL orivders that have to lease lines and rack space from Verizon a (more $$ for Verizon). So uing common sense, I'd say you were wrong and that the Telcos got a lot of restriction a loopholes into the 1996 telco act to save their sorry asses from competition, and they are working their butts off to squash voip, cable or anythign else that might threaten their fiefdom. I'd also say Powell has done a reasonable job at promoting technology, and trying to foster voip growth. |

| Its not the FCC's problem that you can't get another provider. its the CLECs they have not requested to resell or build their own network.
Yes i don't care for the LECs but if you do not have another company wanting to provide service than your stuck with the services you get from VZ.
Check your Excel.com, Sage.com, and MCI.com those providers offer service in many VZ and SBC areas. Also check out IDT.net . they are now in the local business as well besides long distance. |
