Here are a few quotes:
Ashley said: And to be honest i'm even thinking of having some programmers write me some spyware. Yep, actual spyware to infect ppls machines. Why? Cus you all suck. I'm trying to work with you but you couldnt give a sh1t. So why try and work with the anti-spyware community when there only against you? You guys are against me so much that i'm going to start distributing spyware myself, its not hard. UNDETECTABLE stuff too To be honest theres probably more money in this then the actual spyware removal
And: Yesterday I took the first step towards taking action against the posts in this forum. I have contacted an attorney in the US to represent me. I quote from an email they sent me: "You can sue for any defamatory posts that in fact do damage you-- Our attorneys could also become directly involved" From here on I retain my right to remain silence until further advice is sought.
Then: I am taking the advise of my legal guy and I am not going to be taking this any further. At the end of the day as soon as my beta version is finished I will continue to sell my software and will do so knowing that I am doing nothing wrong. Nothing illegal, nothing dishonest.
Then, with regards to eburger(Eric Howes) testing the app, once it is rewritten: IF YOU TEST THE SOFTWARE OR HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SOFTWARE PLEASE EMAIL ME. IF YOU KEEP EMAILING ME STUPID QUESTIONS (i.e not related to the software) I'M GONNA ADD SOMETHING TO MY EULA THAT WILL STATE:
By using this software you agree that you are not the owner of, affiliated with, or a member of spywarewarrior.com
Then he said: Why do you think Eric is not testing the latest version? Because he is smart and he knows its not worth the hassle. The license clearly states 'members of spywarewarrior.com' which includes you
To which Eric replied: Actually, I figured that if you were so clearly determined to make an ass of yourself in public and destroy the reputation of yourself, your firm, and your software, who was I to stand in the way?
This is just small sample of the dialog that went on, I could list an entire page of things, but please, read for yourself. He is well on his way to infamy. -- Remember............You can NEVER be OVERPROTECTED!! |

Privacy Tools creator to infect your machine! I urge people to follow TeMerc's linkhttp://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=4112&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and to read the 4 pages of discussions back and forth before coming to conclusions.
Gee, it took 4 pages to get the 22 year old male owner of the "Privacy Tools 2004" to loose his temper and say something silly.
Real investigative journalists and consumer reporters offer to discuss their article or findings with the subject of the investigation before publication.
That is the ethics of journalism, in Canada and the USA at any rate.
The chances of Ashley making real anti-spyware and even competing with Symantec are about the equivalent of the other side even competing with People Magazine.
But people have to start somewhere. So don't give up. -- (Virus&Hijacking FAQ + Submit suspected malware + Backups FAQ + Security FAQ TOC) |

Actually he lost his temper on page 2 when he threatened to write spyware to infect peoples machines because they criticized his product. His behavior on that thread left much to be desired and at the very least was unprofessional. His exclusion of Spyware warrior members from trialing/reviewing his software shows he's not serious about making his product better. People need to be warned about this product. -- Kerry/Edwards 2004 |

Noooo... not quite. That's the RSS feed for my blog at the bottom of the page. RSS feeds are available for anyone who want to use them.
What amuses me is that he has the feed for my blog on his site even though I blogged about the problems with his software and his bad behavior. Go figure.

1 edit | reply to TeMerc Having read the previous thread concerning Privacy Tools, I see no need to cut any slack to an individual who charges money for software that comes no where close to functioning as represented on the Privacy tool site. In fact, after having read the thread, linked above, even if I accept that what Ashley set out to do is create antispyware software, by his own admission, he is apparently intending to charge money for improperly tested alpha software, essentially an unfinished product.
Ethical considerations aside, there is a whole area of law that deals with fraudulent misrepresentations and consumer protection. Edit: syntax

Peace.

WTF is "Melware"?
Software written by aliens from the planet Melmac, of course. (Bonus points for picking up the reference. Even further bonus points if you know where the name 'Melmac' actually came from.)
Edit: NetWidow wins the first cookie! Now for the second question... |

Isn't 'Melmac' Gordon Shumway's home planet. Isn't he the reason 'CATS' was canceled? Something about confusing it for dinner theater?:o |
