| DVD Decrypter makes coasters
I've got the "DVD Decrypter Version 3.2.3.0" and the 2-3 times I've used it to burn a DVD, it's either had I/O errors or it's made coasters...
I can burn the same image file with Nero with ZERO problems. Doesn't DVD Decrypter *use* Nero's burning engine internally ?? Seems odd that I'd have problems with it, but none with Nero.
Anyone had this problem or heard of it ?? It's really no big deal ... I just won't use DVD Decrypter to burn discs, but I'd still like to know why. |

| reply to Hall You don't, by any chance, have a Sony dvd burner do you? Those sometimes give DVD Shrink problems, wasn't aware of any with DVD Decrypter, but who knows...
Even though both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are supposed to pretty much do all of this within themselves, I still use the 3-program, 3-step approach: Rip with DVD Decrypter Reauthor with DVD Shrink Burn with Nero
I have less than a 1% coaster rate, and that's usually my fault for leaving burn speed setting wrong or something equally dumb. The time it takes to switch between programs is minimal, and actually Decrypter/Shrink work pretty well together, kind of knowing where they put their files and stuff. I mean if you have Decrypter put the ripped files into C:\MOVIE\VIDEO_TS (i.e. accept its default) then point DVD Shrink to C:\MOVIE it takes over at that point and works nicely.
When I archive a DVD I always have DVD Shrink write the output files to the same folder on my HD, so when I get to Nero, it also automatically looks in the last place I was, so they're right there to grab and drag'n'drop onto the DVD. -- Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment. | reply to 2kmaro I really only have DVD Decrypter 'cause people say if DVD Shrink can "rip" a DVD, to try Decrypter. Well, I don't recall *any* DVD that I've had trouble with...
I prefer Shrink as it's much more user-friendly.
Oh, and no, I don't have a Sony burner. It was a LiteOn 451 (4x), firmware patched to an 851s (8x), and patched again to an 832s (8x, dual-layer) . |

| Try to use DVD Decrypter latest version 3.5.0.0 »majorgeeks.com/download4282.html And see if problems persist. Most of time I use DVD Shrink with Nero 6 Ultra and never had a coaster yet. (NEC 2500a with hacked firmware) |

1 edit | reply to Hall I've never had a problem with DVD Decrypter. Try switching from SPTI to ASPI, that may help. DVD Decrypter uses its own burning engine, not Nero's.
Oh, you weren't burning DL media were you? Because Nero was the only software that supports DL. I guess the new DVD Decrypter supports DL, but not the version you were using. -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures. |

And it's a good thing, I guess. I'd hate to make a $15 coaster. I too am waiting for the price to drop before I spring for a DL burner. -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures. |

Hey ! If you have a good single layer burner, chance you can upgrade it to dual layer just flashing the firmware as I do with my NEC ND2500a have a look on this : »club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.p···f16&f=61 |

I have one of the best single layer burners, the Pioneer 105, but it's not upgradeable to dual layer through firmware. So I guess it's not best anymore.. -- Jimmysquid.com - I take pictures. |
