Ewido or BOClean for realtime anti-trojan?

Which is a better anti-trojan ewido or boclean, expecially in the realtime monitor area. Is there any system lag? Is one a resource hog? Help please!

Thanks a ton!

I have never used Ewido, but have been using BOClean for many years. It is one of the few pieces of software that I have never ever regretted buying. It is not a resource hog: in fact it uses very little.

The cost is a one-off payment. All upgrades and updates are free.

There's a free 14 day trial for ewido in which you may evaluate all the features it has to offer and may check their impact on system performance. For BOClean you'll have to rely on the feedback by the users in these forums or use their money-back guarantee. Since ewido is somewhat new I don't think that there are any independent reviews available yet, for BOClean I don't know any either (well, at least for the latest version, there was a not so pleasing one for an earlier version but Kevin may have addressed the issues).

I use Ewido, the free version and I like it. It has updates almost every day. It doesn't have a realtime monitor in the free version.

The paid version has a realtime monitor but it slowed me down a bit. I've heard alot of good reviews on BOClean though. I just don't want to pay for an anti-trojan.

Hi,

I think you are going to have a tough decision since both products get very good reviews from users. I use both. I purchased BOClean first because it has an excellent real-time scanner. Subsequently, I purchased Ewido - I have them both running side-by-side because of some good reviews in regard to its architecture and database and it does have full scan, on-demand capabilities that does find some minor tracking cookies from time to time that the other programs I have miss. But Ewido is still fairly new and not time-tested like BOClean. Kevin, at BOClean, gives excellent support. I haven't had a chance to use Ewido support yet. Personally, if I was in your shoes, I don't know how I would decide. I use both and I like both. If I really had to choose tody, I would probably go with BOClean because it has been fully vetted and is known to be an excellent product - just like TDS-3. When push comes to shove, I rely first and foremost on TDS-3.

Hope this helps.

Rich

Does BOClean detect dialers like ewido? It doesn't say on the BOClean site.

Thanks!

Re: Ewido or BOClean for real time anti-trojan?

I use BOClean in real time, but have been using Ewido since it first came out. The support is good with Ewido as well. Not quite as fast as Kevin and Nancy, but the response time is under 24 hours. Both programs are easy to use for those of us who don't like to fiddle with anti-trojans aps.

Ewido's full version runs as a service, which I found unique.

Quoting from a recent question I asked Peter at Ewido:

"...ewido was designed as a pure anti-trojan with a real scanning engine based on code signatures with generic unpacking, memory scanning etc.

All these features are mainly needed to detect (even modified) trojans... Malware like Spyware can be really easily detected so I wouldn't say this is the main-target of our scanner, we just add everything we get to our database (which is quite a lot )"

Here's my resource usage on this computer for EWIDOSS. One's for the "Guard" portion, the other's for when you simply open the program from SYSTRAY icon (not scanning).

I don't consider the usage excessive, but I guess it depends on the system. Pete

Not "excessive" by my standards, but BOClean is leaner. They are two different programs though - Ewido is a "suite."

Wow, why don't you switch tea-timer off and use spyware guard. Your Peak mem of tea-timer is quite large.

I get the impression that tea-timer doesn't work all that well, judging by the number of HJT logs posted with tea timer running.

I'm not troubled by it or losing sleep over it, but I must admit I was a bit surprised by the usage myself.

I do have Spyware Guard as well, but it does not alert with changes to msconfig, ActiveX, etc...

I had tea-timer enabled on my daughter's laptop. She qualifies an an average user, and was always puzzled at what she considered cryptic pop-ups; I suspect some users end up giving in and click yes. I purchased BoClean, disabled tea-timer; no more «Dad, what do I do with the pop-up».

Phil

What's a "bank?" I use the mattress!

Not overly protected - I think .

There's really no such thing as "too well-protected" as long as nothing you've got is conflicting with anything else or slowing you down in any way (or at least, not enough to notice).

I runs literally tons of stuff on here and none of it causes a noticable impact on performance. Pete

Sorry but I have to say this. For the people using tea timer there are other programs that will do the same thing with less resource. I don't know the names of them right off the bat but I know there is some. I still use Tea Timer and I'm thinking of switching because it does use alot of resources.

Now back on topic. I think Ewido is pretty good. It also finds so called spy cookies (adware cookies) on your computer.

Actually these number don't mean a lot. Whatever task manager displays does not reflect the real memory usage of the application (actually this looks like the working set size of the process image but I never invetigated this further).

If an application uses a kernel mode driver for example, the memory occupied by this often is not visible in the task manager display. So there may be 2 MB displayed in task manager while there are 20MB of additional memory occupied by the driver. So I'm always suspicious when any product is advertised with "low memory and CPU usage" However, in no case this may be used two compare the memory or resource usage of two applications because the values displayed in task manager are only one part of the picture.
