I was shooting for a compact desktop that was very quiet and stable to run basic home office and photo lab but still be able to perform a little gaming and video editing. As my wife cools off I will go for an LCD Monitor and some nice speakers that sound good and look good. I will be modifying the CPU and CASE fans soon for minimum noise levels, I have to shop around to see what's available. The Mobo boasts an automatic rpm reducing feature on the fans, automatically increasing and decreasing their speed based on demand. In the bios there is the option to tweak the fans even further.
I struggled a little with the interior case setup due to limited IDE sockets and limited drive bays but there is no floppy on the system and so I crammed it all in there. After a little practise I managed to fold and arrange the cables in a very neat and orderly fashion maintaining maximum air flow.
There is a single 1394 jack on the front of the case that has no home on the mother board. I will add the card in the next week or so. I may Upgrade one of the hard drives to the largest single bay capacity and/or add 1394 hardrive on the desk.
NEXT TO BE UPGRADED:
Multi Card reader for Floppy hole in front case. Polk Audio Speakers 3.1 into midrange Altec Lansing I think. 17" Ugly Unbranded (Masking tape yellow) Monitor into 17" LCD. Logitech Mouse into anything more comfortable. 1394 Firewire PCI Card(Low Profile due to case restrictions)
THINGS I'll KEEP FOR A WHILE:
Canon S520 Printer Canon A80 Camera Snapscan Scanner NCR UPS Surge Protector
I'd say this is about the 10th system I've built since 2000 and its weird to see all these old pcs of crap lying around in cardboard boxes stuffed into closets. 2,4,6 gig hard drives. 12x CD ROMs. AMD K6 and Intel PII motherboards and CPU's. Thousands of dollars worth back in the day. I think I'm ready for a PC yard sale or a trip to a donation center.
Cheers! |

All the hardware changes means I have to re-activate XP, so I am taking this opportunity to do a clean install with SP2 slipstreamed.
2.5 years from install without me screwing up the OS is a record! XP = good -- If laughter can be contagious, why do we never hear of any mirth epidemics? |
