ZoneAlarm Pro help!

i just got ZAP few weeks ago version 5.1 works great but i have a couple of quesiotns

i have all my settings for everything on ZA on high...should i do this or no???

and how do i few its logs and how do i know if somone has attecked me all it says is ( ex 7 intrusions have been bloced, 1 of those have been high rated)

also when new programs want to acces the net the pop up thinkg comes up and asks me to eitehr allow or deny...and when i click allow and make it to remember it should i just leave it at that or go to prgram list and disable some stuff to make me sore "secure"

how do i know if im in stealth mode or not????

and in the program list should i just leave everyhing checked or unchecked or half i don't understand that part

and i have default settings just everyhign is on high am i "secure" enough or am i very vulerable still????

and how do i close ports that programs don't need to be opend??

and under program control> Componets all my applications have acces (everything is checked marked) is that good or bad..should block come or no?

and 1 more thing on the system try the icon for ZA sometimes it will show the ZA symbol and somtimes it will show red/green lines to in and out action is that normal?

You can check how good your firewall is doing it's job here, without even leaving BBR: »/scan

As for your questions, probably best resource I can recommend for reading is ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm Pro Plus Free IMSecure Help Links by Iggy

If you want another opinion, to check your stealth mode & open ports, you can also use Gibson Research Company's 'Shields Up' »www.grc.com

high is fine, as far as being more secure, just look at your programs list, and make sure only programs that NEED server access have it allowed(very few programs need it, only 3 on mine have it) aol instant messenger for one(needs it for direct connections), if nothing has server access the incoming ports are already blocked
if you know the programs you should leave the "access" row checked, for the server row i explained up top, and the send mail is pretty self explanitory(check=allowed to send mail, X=not)
the lines are just your normal internet traffic, like your modem will show, the green is allowed, the red is blocked

"i have all my settings for everything on ZA on high...should i do this or no???"

Having your Firewall tab internet security tab set to high is a good thing.

"also when new programs want to acces the net the pop up thinkg comes up and asks me to eitehr allow or deny...and when i click allow and make it to remember it should i just leave it at that or go to prgram list and disable some stuff to make me sore "secure""

Look at the recommendation the software makes in regards to this. The pop up near the bottom will have a suggestion with a link to more information.

"how do i know if im in stealth mode or not????"

Test at various testing sites. Some of which have been listed above. Those links and other testing links can be found here test.iggyz.com

"and 1 more thing on the system try the icon for ZA sometimes it will show the ZA symbol and somtimes it will show red/green lines to in and out action is that normal?"

This is just an indication that your computer is online and that approved programs are doing what they do on the network. It's an indication of traffic coming in and going out on your pc.

The long url to my ZoneLabs bookmarks posted by MapleLeaf See Profile can be accessed using zone.iggyz.com as well.
