ripoffs.com? Is that a tainted site? At first glance, looks harmless. |

In a comment by f8dy on Thursday, 03 June 2004 @ 21:17:43 EDT, a customer service representative of Bailey Consulting suggested he contacted me personally about the news article from Feb 16 of this year. I can tell you, no one had ever contacted me.
I just wonder why this hasn't been stopped after so many complaints. -- Lee Ho Fook's |

1. The individual amounts of the phony charges are far below any jurisdiction's limits for felony prosecution.
2. The weasels operate across international boundaries which further complicates jurisdictional issues.
3. The financial institutions who could bring felony charges because of their collective losses are likely making more money on credit card processing fees for the majority of the phony charges which go undetected than they are losing by eating the detected and reported charges. Banks collect a transaction fee and a percentage of the sale amount for each credit card transaction.
4. For what it is worth, some of the web sites do appear to have been taken offline, but that does not mean that the credit card merchant accounts have been closed. -- The man who is a pessimist before 48 knows too much; if he is an optimist after it, he knows too little. |
