hello all hope you are well,
situation:
when I clean,(scan Disk) fast defrag & run virus ck on all files/folders,ect
Question: IF this is done in SAFE Mode,(so min drivers- program are running in the backround)
( i usually unplug the phone line from the computer anytime in safe mode)
AM I CORRECT in thinking,
"'WHEN in SFE MODE i do not have any firewall in place or IS the firewall still protecting me even though its is not showing on the taskbar when in safe mode??

1 edit | Yes. If you'd like to know what is running in safe mode, just click ctrl-alt-del(which will bring up the windows task manager) and you will see what applications are running (while you're in safe mode). |

| The firewall would definitely NOT be in place under Windows98, which I happen to know is the OS you run.
But a curiosity question comes to mind: what about the built in firewall in Windows XP (if set to On normally) - anyone tested?

hello Spy & 2K Thank you for the info & i looked while doing after cleaning & befor virus scan in safe mode ONLY THING shown running was internet explorer,so think I will continue to clean,defrag in SAFE mode with phone line off, THANK U for the info & help, "jazzy"

Doesn't it also not allow internet when running in Safe Mode? So it wouldn't make a big difference if the phone line is plugged in it or not. I know at least on my system with Win98SE when I boot into Safe Mode the internet also does not work and I've tested that it was secure by having a friend do a port scan on my IP address and it came up clean.

Correct, habya . No Internet Connection in Safe Mode that I know of.
