Re: NAV 2005 Problem - Help Please!

I have XP Pro and upgraded to SP2 about three weeks ago. Last week, I ordered and received NAV 2005. I had NAV 2003 installed as part of Norton System works 2003 (Note; I only installed the NAV part--none of the rest of the programs as they caused problems and were outdated. So after a reformat I installed only NAV 2003.)

I have had NO problems runing the program except for the last download of definitons. I got some erros during the process, so I went to the Symantec site and manually downloaded the files and installed them and then ran live update again. IT showed the two files but this time they download and installed OK. This definiton problem is the ONLY glitch I have had. I have run many scans to test program, let it runs its' scheduled scans, etc. with NO problems: It scans e-mail works great with Zone Alarm 1.51. (pro version) And again, as I stated, I have SP2.

When I received NAV 2005 I uninstalled all the Symantec and Noron progams listed in Control Panel--Add Remove Programs, rebooted. I then deleled the Norton related folders and files in Program Files (some were left over), and again rebooted) and then installed Nave 2005.

You should show three Norton Symantec programs now in Add-Remove: Live Update, Live reg, and Nav 2005. Carefully go through the list and see if by chance on YOUR system there are any other Symantec or Norton related files. If there are any remove them and the three mentioned here; reboot. Them remove any Norton folders or files in the Program Files Folder: There should be two folders: Norton AntiVirus and Symantec. Delete them and once again reboot.

Now reinstall Nav 2005 again--be sure to disable and turn off ANY running programs, especially any that have icons in the system tray. Update defintions, run the first scan, stc. Then reboot and scan again, etc to test.Run several different types of scans to throughly test the program.

If you still get error: 1. You may have some corruption in the install program, if you downloaded it. If so, try to download a new version (you may have to call tech support.
I think you have this option for a while at least after purchasing.

If not get tech support to send you a CD overnight.

2. Some other program is causing a problem during the install. Turn off Zone Alarm, or any firewall (disconnect from Internet if that is the only protection) and any other resident programs that you can turn off and reinstall Nav 2005 again. 3. If it is not related to install interference there could be a proble with some program that is resident or active when you are scanning with Nav. Try to disable any such programs especially any that have icons in the system tray.

Hope some of this helps. please keep us posted and let us know if the program is fixed and how.

Re nav problems and installing from CD

With a program as imortant as Anti-virus I would not want to juist trust a download installer, I would want a CD OR the ability to at least re-download the installer ( As you can do with Zone Alarm) If you buy NAV 2005 on the download option, I think you have the option of buying some download protect so you can re-download the installer in case you loose the original in a crash etc.

I would strongly advise that anyone going the download route get the assurance of being able to re-download and install

I always burn downloaded programs to CD as a backup in case I need to re-install them later. I believe Symantec/Norton saves the install files (at least they used to) to a folder called VBox\Installers.

Good idea, but the point is...

I to save a backup of installers, but the pont was if the installer itself is corrupted or has problems so will the backup. You need the ability to get a fresh copy!
