Rendering video

I just got my ATI All-in-wonder 128 Pro, and I can import video just fine, but then when I try to render I get as far as two percent and then a message pops up saying 'Frame XXXX is unusable'. I think it may have something to do with the fact that about 30 seconds after I start rendering my RAM runs out, and about 3 or 4 minutes after that my pagefile (swapfile? I don't know, just telling you what MemMAX tells me) runs out and the frame becomes unusable. I'm using Ulead VideoStudio. Has anyone else has this problem?

Re: Rendering video

I know in ADOBE PREMIERE 6.0 it creates a Dir that is uses to create the video instead of trying to keep the data in RAM. Have you tries to increase the size of your pagefile manually?

It's already at 2 GB, I don't think files can get any larger than that in WIN 98. btw, nice look

And what is the file standard for VHS? MPEG-1 352x480 NTSC, w/CD quality audio?

Re: Rendering video

Your right... What OS are you running?

Added Later:

I took this off the software support BBS:

"Check Global Commands to see if MS Device is selected. If it is, select Preferences. On Ulead VideoStudio tag uncheck every box, especially Undo. (Uses lots of memory.)
On Capture tag, uncheck all apart from Seamless Capture.
Leave Preview tag as is and only use C: as capture drive."

I hope this helps...

Have you looked through the documentation and the application menus to see if there's a way to get it to write a tempfile to disk?

If this software can't write a tempfile to disk, return it or use its CD as a coaster, then buy a better encoder. Hopefully it's just an overlooked option.

And for my own curiosity, can you tell me if this is software you bought off-the-shelf/through a company, or if this came in a package with something else (like a video card)?

After Fyndorn's edit:
I'm still interested in an answer to the second question.

I use ADOBE PREMIERE 6.0 which does not use the same method for creating the video so I would have to say no on my part...

I have no experience with any capture cards, but about the second question: VHS is analog, so it has no actual resolution. But MPEG-1 352x240 is VCD resolution, which is considered equal to VHS quality.

I'm not using the MS device, so it doesn't apply to me, bt thanks for checking.

And I have no idea if it is/can write a tempfile to the disk. I would think so, because the software is $130 retail (which is how much the card cost). I don't want to go out and spend another $100+ on editing software that should work). ::sigh:: .

Thanks for the quality specs!

Also, I notice that it eats up my pagefile at a rate of 3 MB/s, which wouldn't be a problem if it rendered at the playback rate, but it renders at half or a third of the normal rate!
