Re: [OT] Anyone have SBC satellite TV here? I switched from Telemedia to SBC Dish and have not looked back. I get a bundled deal with them for my phone, cell, dish, and my DSL....all for around 150. I pay 44.95 for 180 channels with Dish and was paying around 65.00 for cable. |

Our bill is a bit over $70 a month. We get the top 180, superstations, east and west coast feeds (NY and LA). Our home has 3 receivers, so about $10 of that is the $5 per receiver fee.
If SBC starts to offer a combined billing 20% discount on Dish, please post about it here... 20% off would be nice |

 | Question for satellite tv people. Is it possible yet to get both CT and NY local channels? For example, could I get both channel 13 and CPTV (PBS), New York and CT network stations, plus channel 61 Hartford and channel 11 NY? |

They didn't add CT until spot beam came along, and I am grandfathered with east and west coast feeds... I'm concerned that seeking to get the CT stations, I'd wind up losing my west coast feed. As best I understand it, Fairfield County CT gets the NY feeds. |

As you probably know, SBC Home Entertainment and EchoStar Satellite L.L.C [aka Dish Network] won't post on their website which local stations they offer. The key phrase they use is "where available."
Availability of local stations via satellite used to be based upon geography. Theoretically, if you could receive the local network affiliate's broadcast signal with a conventional antenna, then you were not permitted to receive that same broadcast signal via satellite. I've read too that availability of local programming can be dependent upon negotiations between local providers and satellite entities*. Apparently the local broadcast commercial content is not rebroadcast by the satellite operators? (*i.e. - it's always about who is getting paid in these deals ) |

I thought I saw on one of them, Direct or Dish, you put in your ZIP code and it spit back what local stations you would get.

You need to apply for a waiver(through DirecTV), since you're able to get your locals. it's up to your local channels, i.e. WFSB(CBS), WTNH(ABC), etc... to let you get the NY & LA feeds, not DTV or DishTV. I'll tell you this, you'll get denied ABC & CBS, and more than likely get NBC & Fox. Plus it's around 2.50 per month per channel to get these feeds. I got denied ABC & CBS repeatedly, and got the other 2 on my first request. You cannot circumvent the waiver process. this is all done in accordance with federal legislation. good luck. PM me if you have any questions. |

Actually you can, some (like myself) are grandfathered in. I have all east and west coast network feeds for NY and LA, never needed to file any waiver form. I think there is a rule about people who had service before mid 1999. However, it does leave me stuck with Dishnet, if I cancel or lose service, I lose my west coast feeds |

I know that I'm late to the thread on this, but since I learned a few things in the process of getting DirecTV installed last week.
For exactly what you're asking: unless/until laws are changed, no.
The best you could do is get Hartford locals (3, 8, 20, 24, 30, 59, 61) + NY major networks (2, 4, 5, 7) if you got waivers + (on DISH only) NY superstations (9, 11).
However...you might also want to look into the magic of "moving" over on dbsforums.com or tivocommunity.com. If you "moved" to New York, you could get all NY locals, and then retain Hartford area stations via antenna or basic cable.
And, it's worth noting, at least on DirecTV, the picture quality of the NY locals is much better than the Hartford locals. |

Why must we become our own "experts"???
I think it's great that we have this forum where we can all support each other but why can't we get the answers from the vendors?
