| Suggestion for a Weather Forum....
A couple of weeks ago I suggested a weather forum be created, and I was told that the local forums were the place to go for those posts...Now after 4 storms and more coming, the other forums are tired of the updates and posts...You can see it in the responses...So we again would like to suggest a Weather Forum be created so that those of us who are avid fans of any and all weather related links have one place here to post all storm, global climate information, and winter storm related links...I thank you for your consideration and responses... -- We fold for cures... |

I'm a weather enthusiast myself, but I don't think it'll fly. Not enough demand, right now the local forums (and some of the entertainment forums) can handle the load. |

| I'm certainly not trying to belittle your request, but in my experience unless there's an overwhelming need for a new forum, it's not created.

By this do you mean that the member(s) in said forum(s) are complaining, or that forum hosts are locking the threads because they are a nuisance?
If the latter is true, then maybe a new forum is warranted. If it's just a general acceptance issue then ignore any negative comments, stay on the `hey-mods' button and just keep on posting. |

| reply to ghostpainter There were only a couple, and they respectfully voiced their opinions, GP... If some perceived weather threat is pertinent to a particular city forum and remains a source of useful information...the majority agree the thread should be there.
With that...I must also *object* to a specific weather forum outside the city forums. -- ~ PROJECT HOPE ~ Team Discovery ~ Team Starfire ~ Team Ecology ~ AskDg |

1 edit | reply to ghostpainter You don't have to surrender. State your case, make your arguments, and then accept the variety of opinions
That said, you also have to consider the site as a whole and how such a forum fits in. Do you think many people think of visiting a tech support site for a weather forum? Right now people might be searching because there's plenty to talk about, but how about in the Spring when the weather is fair? Will there be enough interest to sustain an independent forum?
That's all people are trying to point out, I think. If you are having problems posting to your local forum, you might try and voice your concerns to the moderator. |

| I think with all of the technical aspects of Weather forecasting, The climate changes the forecasting models, The weather forum to me would be the perfect showcase for all of the technical aspects of weather forecasting, and add Earthquakes into the mix as well.
I would like to see a site devoted to climate change statical analysis, and of course all of the links, software applications, hardware, our own personal weather stations many of us have at home and how we use them in conjunction with the local broadcast stations and our PCs...I know many people feel the weather sciences are mundane but when you get into the math, the reading and understanding of maps, charts, and the many updates we receive each day, it becomes almost an urgent need to share all of that information with others. It is to many of us a part of our daily lives.
People come to DSL for more than the tech support which I admit is among the best...they also come to DSL for the community spirit as with Team Helix or the southeast or even the LA/OC forums...It may have started out as a tech forum but it has grown way past that....And thanks Sara for the suggestions...

I would like suggest to you that a Weather Forum would be valuable during all times of the year. In the Spring it is Tornado Season. In many communities all they have is the local channels. As been in the case in several storms the local channels are knocked off of the air. With constant updates here and the latest radar links posted someone could come here to find out what is happening in there area if they cant get anything or anybody in the affected area.
The same holds for winter time. During widespread blizzards power is lost and people have to look to out side sites to find information. I get snow alerts all of the time during the winter time. Snow and Road conditions even on the 5 freeway here in the L.A. area affect thousands of drivers who don't know what is happening...Someone with a lap top in his car could come to DSL Weather and see all of the latest updates from several different sources, not just one.
When you think how big the DSL community is now and how it is growing and much bigger it is going to get, a technology based Weather Forum would only compliment the site further...Thank you for you patience and thanks to SARA again... -- We fold for cures... |

I have no idea what you are talking about. Never heard of those forums. I came here originally for the Security forum and I am still here for Security, Microsoft Help, Software and Road Runner, and New Feature Requests. I don't have time for other forums. The Security forum takes a tremendous amount of time.
As for a weather forum...I can think of about a million other forums I think would be very useful here. A weather forum? How extremely boring. I live in Hawaii. It is sunny and 85 all year round. Why would I want to know that it is sunny today and 85 degrees? I can see that in unfortunate climates on the Mainland where there is a lot of variety in the weather and all those awful winter blizzards that having a weather forecast is quite useful...but a forum here for weather forecasts? I'm sorry, but this is a site about broadband for computer connection to the internet and about other things to do with the technicalities of securing and using your computer. It's not a site for anything else IMO. I'd like to see all the extraneous forums bite the dust and I don't want anymore! (For instance, a pets forum was suggested here. I love pets but I don't really think we need one here although I did support the idea at the time. We don't need a health forum here either...totally extraneous and so is a weather forum. I'm sure there are many sites where you can go for a weather forum and I would suggest you do just that. That is what supporters of a pets forum here were told and if it holds true for a pets forum that would have broad appeal probably then it sure holds true for a weather forum that would only appeal to a few persons). -- The first and foremost function of our jurors is to protect private citizens from a tyrannical and intrusive government...Jurors are the last line of defense for liberty. | reply to ghostpainter I am guilty of being a weather nut at times ... I believe that the weather related discussions fit in quite nicely in the existing city chats and other social/entertainment forums.
If you want to discuss weather every day, or just follow more intense weather type discussions there are plenty of dedicated weather boards out there, even some that have a surplus of professional meteorologists as members.
I just don't think BBR is the place for it at this point. -- Chilly likes it |
