Re: Davis, CA having problems?

Is it just me or are other people getting stuff like this?
Comcast is the worst company. I guess I'll call and open another trouble ticket which I'm sure will do nothing.

Welcome to the world of local markets, where they oversell and disregard everything corporate office says. Some former ATTBI area's are notoriously bad however Comcast (corporate) is working to fix this. However this requires local office to co-operate.

...waiting for the truck roll now..

I've also noticed that there are ramdom outages every 6 to 12 hours consistantly.. my connection will drop out for 5 - 15 mins then reconnect, reminding me of time-outs on dialup. It's like everything resets every few hours or something.. (that's NOT 24/7 internet access..)

Anyways, it seems Comcast has to send a tech out to see that it's not working and then, of course, say "OH thats acceptible with the plan you're on, yada, yada, yada.." and we all know it's not.. Guess we wait to see what this tech says.

I'll update again after his visit.

the cable internet here has been down the past 2 days now. i've also noticed that when it does go up, and i decide to power cycle the modem to see if anything changes, it would take a surprisingly long amount of time to re-establish a connection to the cable (modem would blink over and over for hours on end) when it should re-establish a connection within a minute at most. (at least that's what my modem back in the bay area does. it's quick and has not had as many problems as davis comcast cable. it's getting pretty damn ridiculous.

yeah. massive problems with comcast here. Over the last 2 months, i can recall getting about 3 days of advertised service.

We ordered comcast cable beginning of august, original install date was scheduled august second i believe. they never came. long story short, we finally got cable working october 4th or so.

speeds have ranged from 1.8kpbs to 1000ish kpbs down

pings are consistantly bad, there's a tracert of www.google.com taken just now:

Short of an online flower company I've had experience with, comcast is one of the worst in terms of customer service that I've dealt with. It doesn't matter that there are no or low hold times because the reps are either stupid or incompetent and say there's nothing they can to except send a tech to my house AGAIN. Fortunately, the tech they sent the first time was cool and gave me a pager number to contact when an outage occurs. He knew of and acknowledged the problems in Davis, unlike anyone I've ever spoken to at customer service.

On the brighter side of thing, my account is so very notated regarding my cable modem experience that comcast extended my digital silver package for another 3 months and waived the install fee for an HDTV box upgrade. It's good to know that if I have problems, at least I can milk it.

That's because the only person to blame for the Davis CA outage is the local franchise. It's their fault the service is terrible because they oversold their CMTS. This tends to be the issue of former ATTBI offices throughout all of CA. Basically, Comcast Corporate says no, you can't sell anymore HSI until we fix the CMTS so that it can handle the stress of more users. Comcast local says F*$% you Comcast Corporate we will sell when we want to sell even if the service is shitty. This is the exact same problem that occurred earlier this summer with Sunnyvale CA. There are actual situations where Comcast Corporate has walked in and fired lots of people because of this. Basically you will experience this problem until they either beef up the CMTS or split it with another. It's the whole one step forward two steps back game. Anyways wish you all the best of luck.

Ok, back again.. The tech was out here again and determined it's not my machines.. also did a remove / rebuild on my account.

escalated this issue to his next up in the chain.. most likely a system / node issue..

will update once again when i get more details.

@comcast.net

There was an outage from about 9:40AM to 1:15PM this morning. When I called them up, they said 10 out of 60 units were offline throughout Valdora and Cowell. He said he wasn't sure if that was enough to constitue an outage. Ugh. The modem just wouldn't sync up and get an IP address. The up and down power were all over the place too.

Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up.

Hrmmmm... Wonder how many people have called in.

Tech guy came here to south davis (cowell/drew area) and said wasn't our hardware but theirs and that he'll pass the message up. Wonder if something's gonna get upgraded and when at that. Good thing I have a wireless connection and get to mooch off someone's 1924 Kbps DSL.

Yeah, I've gotten the blinking cable light problem on and off for the past two weeks. The Dumbarses on the phone say that can't do anything until a tech comes out, which is supposed to happen tomorrow. Then the guy tells me that it could be because I plugged my modem into a UPS and it's causing power fluctuations! WTF??? I have an APC SmartUPS, the thing conditions power to keep it at a steady sine wave of 120V.

I can't believe it, I almost wanna call up Omsoft and go back to DSL, despite the price, it was more reliable than this.
Okay smarten up..... YOU CAN'T plug MOST cable modems into powerbars of any sorts. Because they already have BUILT-IN protection and doing so screws up the modem. I know this as a Shaw ISP user. The Tech was extrememly right in this case, cable modems can only be connected directly into the socket on the wall. No if ands or buts, as for power backup such as UPS you need one with a socket that doesn't have protection on that socket.

* I know this causes problems from my own personal experiences.

Tech just left here - Was actually really nice. Explained they launched 3 Nodes in Davis each designed to support about 64 users, and right now all the nodes are holding about 180 people. This is why it crashes so much, and why we all ping so high. The tech said they are splitting the nodes so everyone gets their share, but the issue wouldnt be resolved until, "Hopefully, the end of the month."

Unlike the Comcast center, he did acknowledge the problem, and said Areas of Sacramento and Elk grove were experiencing similar problems.
Comcast HSI tech Support only knows about problems that are posted on a software program which alerts them to current status reports of problems and issues and new products. The local area has to post this information to the system.

No shit.
I've had complete outages every night for close to a week.

This morning I was out for 5 hours or so.

I called Comcast "support" and was once again told that there are no network problems but they could schedule a tech to come out.

THERE WAS A TECH HERE YESTERDAY!

According to him (and this group) I'm just one of many who are having slowdowns and outages in Davis.

Does the national office really NOT know what's going on at the local level?!?!?!?

Is this frickin' company managed by monkeys?!?!?!?
We only are aware of what Comcast HSI in your area relays to us!

Have you tried contacting your local franchise authority? They might be able to motivate someone at Comcast to fix the problem. Any of these people should be able to tell you who is in charge of administering the cable franchise:

Jerilyn Cochran is coordinating the "2x2x2" process:

The City Councilmembers participating in the process are:

It's not really a Comcast issue as it is the local office not following policy, basically Comcast Corp. will get fed up with dealing with it to the point they will walk in and clear house, this has happened in a few areas.

lasalle

@comcast.net

Ok.. so I am back on this forum again.

My comcast has been a pain in the arse.

First off, I have to reboot my router once or twice a week. I have never had to do this with SBC.

Second, The connection slows down at peak hours. IE. After school.

Third, the last two days we have been stuck with this wierd speed issue. When we download it will go up to 200kb, but we can't surf the internet. Websites takes forever to load, and sometimes they can't load at all. Comcast is probably going to tell me to fix my settings, check my comp, blah blah blah. But thats BS. I have not messed with any settings, and my computer has been the same since the start. I am quite peeved with this. Does anyone know why I am having these issues?? and is there a name for it?? Loss packets?? And how do I test for it.

Thanks,

Together, well bring comcast to its knees.. haha

yeah, haven't had a stable connection for about a week. Tech is coming to my house again on monday. I'm sure he will verify that everything is fine on my end, for the third time. The only reason I even schedule these things is so I can get credit on my account. If they stop giving me credits before they fix this crap I think I'll go back to dsl.

I too have a tech comong out on Sat.. 3rd one now.

the last tech figured it's some sort of node / network problem and was suppose to notify his manager, but it seems he forgot or Comcast 'lost' it..

so when i called support again to find out what's up with it, they, of course, didn't know anything about it and had to roll another truck.

Hey no need to wonder why Comcast's prices are so high.. it's pretty easy to see that they waste a LOT of resourses in wasted tech visits and untrained / uninformed teir 1 support reps.

Anyway, I'll sit here and wait for Sat (11/20) and I'll post again after the tech finds nothing wrong here - again.
