Re: Davis, CA having problems?

La Salle apt finally works again. Time to get my money back!!!

Anyone else experiencing slow-down lately?

Last night my cable kept dropping from 2700kps to 1200kps..really really bouncy. I hope they are fixing stuff and this is just temporary, but if anyone else is having this happen all evening i'd like to know.

I'll trade all of you guys right now. I live in Sacramento (right near Arden mall). I have been having the issues you all were having earlier since mid July. Speeds used to be in the 2600 - 3000 range, then, in July they "Upgraded" the network and everything went to hell.

Connection is now around 400k if I'm lucky, and goes down every 10 - 20 minutes of use. I have had 10 tech's out to my house, in every case, they are relating the problem to bad signal between me and the nearest server/node. (Ping response from me to the nearest node averages 400 ms when its running good).

Comcast hasn't done a thing about it, and I keep getting the run around. I just found out that everyone in my complex is having the same problem, but Comcast refuses to repair the lines. I am at my wit's end, and would get DSL, but I am so far away, the maximum speed I can get is a 384k line.

Those of you who's internet has come back, did you do anything special to get it back? I now make regular daily calls to Comcast Tech. Support to complain and check on the status of my problem, but I never find anything new out and never receive a call back, no matter how often I'm sworn to that I will. Very frustrating. (I am writing this at my school because right now my internet is cutting out every 30 seconds to 1 minute, not a good situation for me because I run a home business and can't get any work done).

Well guys, it looks like either I finally complained enough or like they finally got around to fixing my lines. This morning is the first time in 3 months that I have gotten a speed test with a download of over 800k.

Also, Davis guys, if you look at your network status page and it looks anything like mine, you'll notice that at least last night, they show that they were doing 10 - 15 different maintenances. That's how its been the last 2 or 3 days for me.

Now, I'm just hoping that speed ramps up to what it was before. If I can get a steady 3 mbps, I might think about upgrading to the 4 mbps line... but I would assume if I can't get 3 mbps, I probably won't see any speed increase with the new service.

Well, my service (west davis, stonegate area) went down last night, and as of this morning, it's still down. No word of any network issues.. .just a blinking 'cable' led.

My service went out too, and came back around 8:15 AM this morning... starting to piss me off.

Someone mentioned above about a network status page that shows maintenance... how do you get to that?

Yup, mine was out yet again last night.. Look at the network status at the bottom of the Member Services page.. »www.comcast.net/memberservices/index.jsp

2 straight nights service has gone out..and they are constantly doing maintenece..wonderful..

I did a tracert to comcast...anyone else getting what i'd think to be rather high results? I had a freind in the Bay area run the same test..his pings were almost 50% lower across the board.

Regarding your pings, N-Davis.. I think it jumps because that's probably the cross-country hop. Hop 8 is probably in New York somewhere. Try tracerouting to google.com or yahoo.com; those stay in the Bay.

@67.182.x.x

Thanks for the reply Wak - I took your advice and ran a several tracert's to google.

14 22 ms 78 ms 132 ms 216.239.49.154
15 27 ms 30 ms 48 ms 66.102.7.99

More consistency is correct, a few spikes though. My brother with Comcast in Marin County gets 10/10/10 more or less through the first 9-10 hops. Oh well...

Try using the freeware pingplotter »www.pingplotter.com/download.html .. It will keep running time delayed traceroutes and show the averages.

No matter what, it's definitely better now than it has been. We're giving comcast time to get things straightened out.. If it keeps going out every week, we'll have to switch back to DSL.

its pretty much hopeless. Comcast is only going to do enough to make the network okay. I lost my connection last night. Woke up this morning it still wasn't on. Same story the night before that. I'm getting 765/180 speed tests right now.

Good job comcast you've managed to be out done by sbc's 384/256 at least with dsl my pings are low. Definetly won't recommend the service to anyone ever.

@comcast.net
so seriously, it IS comcast's side that they must freakin fix right? I mean if everyone seems to be having speed issues. i just did a speed test and it's 4am right now, so i figure it's not peak hours and i can't even break 1mbit

Yeah, I've gotten the blinking cable light problem on and off for the past two weeks. The Dumbarses on the phone say that can't do anything until a tech comes out, which is supposed to happen tomorrow. Then the guy tells me that it could be because I plugged my modem into a UPS and it's causing power fluctuations! WTF??? I have an APC SmartUPS, the thing conditions power to keep it at a steady sine wave of 120V.

I can't believe it, I almost wanna call up Omsoft and go back to DSL, despite the price, it was more reliable than this.

I think the funny thing is that I'm in South Davis, over by Mace, and I've never had speed problems, just outages.

I can't stress the following enough though, if you have problems keep calling and complaining. When I was on the phone, they said they dont' think it's their problem because they haven't gotten any complaints over the phone. You gotta call and let them know there's a problem, the more, the better.

I have opened two trouble tickets and complained many times. Each time I ask if there is a problem in my area and they say "no, there are no issues"

Then once they start doing tracert's from my modem they admit "wow there is definetly an issue" at which point I create a trouble ticket and when I call back a few days later they say it was looked into and no problems were found. Tech has been to my house and checked all signals.

When I do speed tests even though it ends up being 700/180 or so I can see in my dumeter that it is bursting to say 2000kbps and then stalling, then bursting again and stalling. So even though it averages out to 700kbps its not a steady connection. WTF is going on Comcast.

I tend to test decent speeds (2800/140), but when downloading files my speed flucuates horriblly. (dropping below 100kbps) My ping skyrockets uncontrollably (2800/145 line test, ran a tracert to google and the first 5 hops averaged 60 ping each) and of course, my internet drops me consistently.

My test speed and my actual speed feel very different.
