Yes, I experienced an outing too, and mine is still out .
I'm about to start looking into DSL alternatives |

| reply to rickten Well as expected, the Tech guy who came over found absolutely nothing wrong. He was really nice and told me about how there are 3 nodes serving Davis and that I'm on Node 3, which has been repaired several times. He actually acknowledges the problems in Davis, unlike anyone I've spoke to at tech support. Hopefully they'll get them fixed soon. |

| reply to rickten Tech just left here - Was actually really nice. Explained they launched 3 Nodes in Davis each designed to support about 64 users, and right now all the nodes are holding about 180 people. This is why it crashes so much, and why we all ping so high. The tech said they are splitting the nodes so everyone gets their share, but the issue wouldnt be resolved until, "Hopefully, the end of the month."
Unlike the Comcast center, he did acknowledge the problem, and said Areas of Sacramento and Elk grove were experiencing similar problems. |

| reply to rickten Comcast is just terrible. I never have a stable connection and the lag just sucks. My whole apartment is getting fed up and about to switch to DSL. It especially sucks since I have to connect to the CSIF computers at the lab to do my programming and I can't ever get stuff done! Grr! |

| Damnit, this comcast crap is getting pretty annoying. It goes down about every other day here at la salle. Especially when I need to download work for class!!!!
I cant even imagine how giving me service credits can actually make this ok. I want like free cable or something. Geesh!!! what a bunch of crap... |

| reply to rickten Well just today I saw Quest tearing up the street in downtown davis today. If they are doing work for Comcast I don't know but its possible.
The outages are getting ridiculous. I'll just be surfing the net and its almost like the dns server will just stop working and I can't get to any webpages. Wait ten minutes and everything is fine. |

He has no idea what he is talking about. A "Node" can support hundreds (1,000s maybe?) of users. There would no point in placing only 64 users on a fiber run. |

No shit. I've had complete outages every night for close to a week.
This morning I was out for 5 hours or so.
I called Comcast "support" and was once again told that there are no network problems but they could schedule a tech to come out.
THERE WAS A TECH HERE YESTERDAY!
According to him (and this group) I'm just one of many who are having slowdowns and outages in Davis.
Does the national office really NOT know what's going on at the local level?!?!?!?
Is this frickin' company managed by monkeys?!?!?!? |

| reply to rickten I'm in Elk Grove and have had a max 900k connection for the past 8 months, over the past few days it's gone down to 200k......I've been arguing w/ comcast for the entire 8 months that the node in my neighborhood was underpowered, but they insist on going through the usual diagnostics. They have replaced my modem 3 times, rewired my house, blamed my satellite TV, in addition to "you have too many temporary internet files". Techs have been to my house 3 times, each time after 2-3 hours of diagnostics they leave to check the node, return and report that i was correct they are underpowered. The only problem that i have is comcast won't acknowledge this...8 frickin months and they still refuse to say "the problem is on our side"....which means they are also refusing to do anything....if comcast is down, don't expect it to get back up anytime soon.......and by the way, don't call the support line, call you're local office. The support line can only send a truck to you're house, that truck is supposed to report the problem to the area office who is then supposed to "fix" it. All the techs i've had have told me to keep calling because they aren't going to do anything instead of reporting the problem up stream..... |

| reply to breagerey It's not only Davis. There are major problems all over Sacramento.
A week ago after a night of dropouts and slowdowns (Comcast had EIGHT local maintenance notes on their website) everything was back to normal and I tested a 3300+ download and posted it on the 95825 page.
Within hours we were back to less than 1500 down and it's been that way all week. Tonight, an FTP download test (very reliable) was only 64KB/sec. |

I've experienced that too. I think its because everyone gets kicked off and then if you are lucky enough to notice the modem resync and start using it before the masses you will get great service. As people start to trickle back onto the internet realizing the net is back up the connection goes to hell. |

| reply to rickten what's funny is that with the cable connection i can avg the 300-900kbit downstream. on our dsl we are limited to 768kbit and that's what we get (yes we have both right now), both same upstream. however, playing games like cs on steam and pinging all the servers...comcast has the bigger down pipe but either refuses to grab most of the servers that should be on the list or ping very ridiculously high 100(very few)-9999ms. on the dsl connection, it can ping twice as many servers and pings would be normal broadband pings 10-100ms. it's like the cable can achieve the larger down pipe, but it's so saturated with packetloss and other anomalies. and it's funny how they say they don't deal with anything as long as it's less than 250ms because loading comcast.net's website is about the same speed as using ucdavis' dialup. that's just absurd. not to mention that they are still putting out advertisements claiming to be super fast and how the "wait is over" blah blah. clearly, their nodes can't handle the amount of people on it right now, which makes it strictly a business matter for them to keep getting new people who aren't aware of this issue they have. |

Hehe...PS...thank god for those who don't know how to secure their wireless routers, so that when the cable modem goes out, I can just connect to them and use DSL to browse...hehe. |
