Re: Sick of these?

well .. how about this?
god forbid some1 in your family gets sick ( i do not wish that just using it as an example) and they put him through a CAT scan or different new devices that record pretty much everything that is going on in a human body. and that data has an impressive size... but unfortunately that hospital does not have the computing power to thoroughly analyze that data and give you a exact answer to what is going on to your kid... and they need to send that huge amount of data to some university across the country or across the world ... would you trust fedex with the life of your loved one? the same scenario applies to research on new medicine ... there are huge amounts of data that come out of these experiments. the only thing you are interested is how fast you can get it... to me it seems a little childish ... not to mention selfish ... yes .. very selfish ... say what you want but i am happy and i would like to shake the hands of those people because it's from people like those that new innovations come every day to help save lives and make them easyer... you are only interested in how fast you can download this and that and in being able to brag to your friends how fast your net is ... i say ... get a clue ... you will never see these speeds and never will need them ... but knowing that universities can communicate and send the data they get from experiments to someone who really needs it is really comforting.
you are missing everything since your judgement is clouded by selfishness....

employee. i talked to a vz 2nd liner last week. dracut and woburn mass are getting fttp now. vz has thrown a hundred extra outside plant techs into massachusetts for the job. i don't know why these two communities were picked. call some one at vadi and ask them why. 4017211200

Problem is normal people don't see this as what it is. a test. a test of new technology their tests may lead to a break threw that provides even 1 gig links to your house. How would you like to not hear about any technology which may lead to a new break threw?

Thought so.

actually, i couldn't care less. just wake me up when verizon's offering straight fiber to EVERYONE'S house in the USA

They can't offer it in places where they are not the local telco.

Funny how I can remember my good old 2400 baud modem and thinking it was the greatest thing. 56k wasn't that far back....fastest thing around for the home user. Now I have a 3M connection. *I* wish there was more test results posted....it obviously has a positive effect on my end....

The cheaper and faster ISP's can carry data, the more it will roll down to end users. Trust me, you are already feeling the affect of ISP's moving away from ATM network backbones to IP/MPLS backbones. You can get twice the data rate using the same speed interface. More economic, so the cost is handed down.

It all comes in time.

over 1800 GIGS in an hour on a single TCP line... 100MB would be like 1 minute

= 1,000,000 internet connection per month

your math are all wrong :-\

never say never... there was a time when no one would ever have dreamed of our current level of information technology. We will see very high speed connections in the home... eventually.

Is anyone else sick of hearing about these "speed" records?
Yea...I TOTALLY agree...what good is all this if im still stuck on 1.5/256 for $30 a month

I agree totally. It is good that speeds are increasing and people make a note of it, but it doesn't appply to me right now. I don't even have a gigabet network! I'm still 10/100 Maybe someday this technology will apply to me, but as of right now, I don't even have what is available...

And cost, how much will something like this cost for the home user? Probably alot more than what the Sheriff's department pays me

Seems to me, there is lots of money out there in the world, and no ons is using it to make the internet better and faster for everyone else. Maybe I am missing something?

i agree totally with gatorkram, let us know when it applies to us at home!

I definitely co-sign, we are never gonna get these technologies, let alone get them at a cheap price. Overseas got connections similar or even better then us for crazy deals. These damn companies keep filling our head with cotton filling. Just do it & give us fullfillment in speeds, not yap yap.
