Ah! Too simple for me

Vonage had local numbers all over USA to check VM.
(I never used them. But I think they still do.)

AT&T CallVantage uses:

G726 normally or G711 with Fax and Modem support turned on.

If you mean Net2Phone Voiceline, then they use G729. I'm a happy FWD user who only makes in-network calls other than telco. I have a Sipura SPA-2000 on G723. Awsome! I have a 6mbps/768k line and my SPA only uses hardly 5-7 KBPS with G723!

Through searches through Stanaphone's forums it is stated Stanaphone uses g.711u & GSM.
I'm using StanaPhone too and G723 is also compatible.

Nuvio uses g711 (High Quality) and g729 (Normal Quality) codecs. They are user selectable.

Is that Kilobytes per second or kilobits per second? My cable connection can only do about 512kilobit upload.

I do not think Cv uses G.726.

When discussing bandwidth of different codecs, often the sample rate used is not taken into account, and also the numbers often quoted are for payload, IP layer, or link layer without explanation as to which one is being discussed.

This links to a VoIP bandwidth calculator that allows you to select various codecs and sampling rates, and then show bandwidth at the various layers ... this helps to see the variations more clearly...

TalkBroadband uses G.711 for users with full broadband connections, and G.729 for users with 'Lite' connections.

The sound qulaity and jitter has alot to do with your internet connection as well, for example I recently switched from Optimum online cable internet to Verizon Fios, and quality of my voip has dramitically improved, no more packet loss, ping times have been reducts, and much more stable connection.

Do you use Sunrocket with the G711 codec? How is the call quality? Is it like a land line? I'm shopping for nearest-landline-quality and will pay Sunrocket (or any other provider) to get it.
