| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step by S "Talon, does your router have the creeping slowdown problem on static turbo?"
I may have this issue... quick summary: DI-624 router Rev C3, 2.50 usa FW being used with one dwl-g650 card, rev B5 (yes, B5) and newest "USA" B drivers. Using WPA-PSK and set to static 108 super G turbo at card and at AP/router.
The transfer rate is about 155k both directions, and there is huge web-page load latency. My old cisco 340 AP and Cisco 340 pcmcia card whips this combo...
Is this the creeping slowdown problem? What do I do? -jonathan

Found out 2 issue may help minimize reboot today.
1: Save Settings 2: Log Setting
For [Save Settings] I found that it is not really reliable even load Save from same Firmware version. So, I suggest setup the router by hand after Setting lost or Hard Reset or FW update.
For [Log Setting] I suggest just Check Mark like my Screen Shot.
If you trust me please give it a try, But don't ask me why because i don't know Why... These worked with my DI-624-C3.
Please report here with your successful story.
Good Luck

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step by S I tried your method exactly, but using firmware version 2.50 I still get the pae-disconnect message when my wireless computer connects.
Only reason I am keeping this firmware is because it tends to give me better signal quality so I get better speed further from the router. But I do get disconnections when I close the lid on my laptop

I think this is the power management problem of your laptop more than a router problem....

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step I think that Talon's put his finger on the issue - it's likely to do with the way you have power management configured to respond to your closing the lid. Most laptops let you specify what happens when you close the lid (e.g., sleep, log off, shut down, etc). --

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step I tried Talon's steps about 3 hours ago using F/W 2.50 and all was going well for about 2 hours, and up until about an hour ago the router has been rebooting every minute and a half to 2 minutes.
It's driving me insane, mainly because I'm an online gamer and I'm constantly dropping out of games.
Anywho, I don't use the wireless portion, although others on my home network do, and when plugged directly into the router I get the little windows bubble that says "Local Area Network Cable Unplugged" and then goes away and I regain connectivity.
I'm confused as to what causes this. Is it the F/W? Or perhaps the large amount of traffic I pull thru the router downloading off of newsgroups/bittorent.. etc? Or is the hardware faulty?
But seems like this happens to alot of people, some seem to solve it and others like me probably never will.
Anyways, keep the possible fixes coming, any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

chrisodin,
Try Fixed it to a Channel (Not Auto) You can try setting [Super G Mode] to [Super G no turbo]. This Allow you to switch to other [channel] like [11]...
Also, enable [Game Mode]
Report after doing so....!

| I've also had a major rebooting issue ever since getting this thing 6 days ago. Although it's way too soon to know if it's "fixed", I've not had a reboot since setting the WAN side connection to 10Mbps (from Auto 10/100). See this thread. | |

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step by S I've been using my DI-624 as an AP, and I've had my fair share of problems. Including this one I just found recently. If I send out a lot of messages over trillian through AIM (over the wireless connect) the router will reboot. Its actually the only repeatable way I've had of making the router reboot.
This happened under no turbo settings as well. So I'm guessing that the router is unable a high volume of traffic going into the router. I'm going to see if I can crash the router by sending multiple large files to a wired computer.

 cannot get into web
@scotiabank.com
| I tried upgrading to the newest F/w version 2.5 After I did that, for some reason I have problems getting into the web interface page of the router (192.168.0.1). Either I can go in for a few minutes, and then it freezes (page not found error), or the page just doesn't load all together. Is this a common problem? Without getting into the web interface I can't input my settings...(security and etc)... | |

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step I seem to recall having a similar problem working on my brother-in-law's 624 one time. I'm trying to remember what I did to fix it.. but my memory is failing me.
1) terminate any firewall you're running (disconnect any online connection (cable/dsl) first)
2) make sure you set a static IP address
3) if you use MAC filtering, make sure your first filter covers the wired PC connected to the router.
Hopefully that will get you started.
Wish I could remember what I ran into and how I fixed it, but I recall that I was having trouble entering variables in the router setup pages and it finally locked up and wouldn't let me in to do anything.
I find that once I get a stable configuration and don't mess with things for a long time that I forget some of the finer details of setting up/managing a wireless network.

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step Hey Talon -
You seem to know much more than most about these bloody 624s. I've more or less had it with mine - I'm back on the Netgear 614. The 624, after working fine for a while with the 6.50 firmware is now dropping various machines off the LAN daily, and doing other goofy stuff.
I'd like to convert the thing into an adaptor (I need another one for one of the desktops anyhow) if it'll let me. Is the 624 convertible? Does it have anything akin to a "client mode" or are there any settings that will allow me to use the thing as an adaptor?
Thanks! | |

| [Step 6] After loading the firmware, perform a "Hard Reset" by pressing the [Reset] button at least 12 sec. This ensures that the firmware is locked in. You should Now see the Normal Router Config Page.
[Step 6.1] Exit IE6
[Step 6.2] You can Set back your computer to Auto DHCP
[Step 6.3] Run IE6 Again
Go [Step 7] -- [=Talon88=]

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step I must add:
Each time a crash recovery is done the NIC needs to be locked at 10 Half duplex and a static IP out of the DHCP range of the router. WHy people give PCs a static IP in the DHCP range?? Sure it will work, I will not argue that, but in the future IP conflicts can occur...
Just my 2 cents... | |

@bezeqint.net
| Are you on 2.50? 2.50 seemed to have done reboots every 5-30 minutes for me on PPPoE, although it seems that if I configured it to DHCP it wouldn't connect to my DSL (I know that it can't, I just did that to try and isolate the change from my Cable connection to DSL) but also wouldn't reboot.
When it was configured for PPPoE on 2.50 even if no computer access was done it would reboot (during the night, no access, MAC filtered, log shows restart).
I downgraded to 2.42 in the normal way (no crash recovery) and reconfigured everything.
Now I am at 1:40 and still no reboot.
Any insight? | |

Hopefully it will stay that way.
Has anyone ever proved that updating the firmware in the normal way yields different results than crash recovery? And I don't mean coincidental evidence, but bit by bit comparison of ROM or configuration?

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step :-( 2:35 and a reboot...
This reminds me that a 2.4GHz digital Panasonic phone made my connection go away...
I now disabled Super mode (as I don't have use for it at this point) to see if it will prevent the reboots.
If it works with 2.42 over night I will try 2.50 again.
Does that sound like a plan to you guys? Is it usually necessary to disable Super mode completely or just set it to Super mode with no Turbo?
Thanks! | |

| I've had this same rebooting problem with my DI-624 Rev C for a couple of months. The odd thing is that it only seems to happen when I'm using my wired PC. It almost never occurs when I'm on my laptop. I've tried setting the ethernet card at 10MB half duplex, as suggested by D-Link, but that hasn't helped. The card is probably 4 years old. Any chance it may be the card itself in my case and not the router? Just a thought. Cards are a lot cheaper than a new router. I've got FW 2.50 and tried the crash recovery process, but am still getting the reboots. Any help is appreciated. | |

| The steps listed are great and usually DO help. However, the most thorough way of getting a new firmware in and getting an old firmware out (also the way that requires the most work) is to restore factory defaults, do a normal firmware upgrade through router's firmware page, follow Talon88's instructions step-by-step for factory recover firmware but after doing the final restore factory defaults do NOT put your own settings in, then do a normal firmware upgrade AGAIN, restore factory defaults AGAIN, and then put your settings in.
The most problamatic settings with frequent (as in more than two a day) are UPNP [under Advanced > MISC] and Super-G [On newer firmware ver's, under HOME > Wireless]. Turn UPNP OFF as it is a retarded setting that is just a big security hole anyway, and DISABLE Super-G alltogether if you still get reboots frequently. It is better than just turning off the turbo but leaving Super-G on.
I'll take a look at your thread to see what I can suggest, and in the mean time please, make sure you have followed my thorough way of firmware upgrading to upgrade to either 2.50 avaliable on D-Link's US support site, or 2.52b37 avaliable on D-Link's AUSTRALIA support site.

| Re: DI-624 Firmware update w/ Crash Recovery Step by S I think I can shed light on the Di0-624 problem. I bought one from Dell just prior to Christmas, and like many others have experiencced the disconnect problem. I upgraded firm ware, replaced a NIC card driver and gone through hell and highwater trying to determine the issue, including moving the router to a cooler spot with fan etc. All but attempting someting with the router's insides - and as with most others, no joy! My ISP is Comcast, and I finally got a tech to my house, and we found that my singal had more than the usual nuber of errors. Traced it to a bad line and splitter, which on replacement produced a clean signal on his diagnostic equipment. This has kept my DI-624 up now for atleast 24 hours, so not sure if this is a final fix, it just may be someting that some of you can look into. On anohte note, after workign with Dell and getting yet a second DI-624 (with the same problems both on firmware 2.42 amd 2.5) before engaging Comcast to check my lines, Dell in attempting to fix my problme gave me a Linksis WRT54GS. Assuming the DI-624 stays up I'm going to do some comparative analysis on the two boxes. If the DI-624 starts disconnecting again, I will be able to see if the Linksys has similar teoubles. But at this point all I can say is maybe the problme on the DI-624 is poor error handling routines. | |

1 edit | Well I finally got around to trying this, and indeed it has not rebooted in about 5 days. However, when I got my RMA (this is a C3) it didn't reboot for over a week either.
The only problem right now that UPnP is broken, which makes MSN transfers a pain in the ass.
Also, I had to do this recovery several times before it worked properly. The wifi radio would refuse to enable. I had to use toe 2.50 firmware, the 2.52 would NOT work using these steps.

I get 2 wireless phone (one is 900 MHz & the other is a 2.4 GHz). And like you can imagine, it s the 2.4 GHz that make the router reset. I try many setting, and everytime the phone ring 2 times, the router reset. If I unplugged the 2.4 GHz, no more reset...
I got a friend that live downtown and get a lot o neighborhood. Is router doesn t stop reset because everybody arround get wireless phone ( i suppose 2.4, because my 900 mhz doesn t)

| It s not easy as it seem...I realize my neighborhood also hav this kind of phone, that make my router reset. I'm gonna finish in jail if I go break their evil phone...:). Anyway, I write to D-Link to get the right thing and they just tell : It s interference, there nothing we can do, stop using your Wireless Phone....ya right!!! I'm wondering if Linksys have the same problem with their router??? What about the 802.11b-g if it doesn t work correctly with phone...
Damm shit...best thing I find is to move the router as far as possible to the phone...but what can I do with the neighborhood???
Thank god that cellular doesn t work on 2.4GHz
Anyway I m really deceive about D-Link, and maybe Linksys that use Cisco protocol may have less problem with their own shit...so if anybody know something about Linksys, let me know, because I'm ready for change...

| Hmm, everything wa fine and dandy until i flipped the magic switch! I tried to use MAC-filtering. I thought it would be more secure, but boy, did i get myself in big trouble. The router began disconnecting and rebooting furiously, and has been for the last two weeks, ever since i enabled it. Even when i disabled it, it didnt help. Had to do a firmware upgrade/restore to default for it to get back to normal.
So DO NOT use mac filtering...
