| Verizon VS. DSLExtreme
I currently have Earthlink DSL service and I am fed uo with slow connections and outages so I am switching. I am roughly 5000ft from my CO which is operated by Verizon. I would like to get 3.0 service and Verizons online tool says I cant get although DSL Extremes says that I can. This seems strange to me because my lines are provided by Verizon. Also I am leaning to DSL Extreme because they advertise less downtime since I am on Verizon lines. So how does everyone out there feel about there service from DSL Extreme? Has anyone switched from Verizon to DSL Extreme? Oh BTW I am in So. Californa.... |

1 edit | Verizon Online is not offering the 3 meg service as a retail service on the west coast. It is being offered on the wholesale level to ISPs.
BTW We can now do a "hot swap" on Verizon lines. This eliminates the 2 week+ previous cancel and reconnect requirement and will result in a minimal amount of downtime. |

| reply to Mpnx2 Well I am about to sign up then I would just like a little more info. What kind of modem would I receive? Does is offer wireless? Does it have a built in switch? Also would I need to cancel my earthlink service before I sign up? Also can I do this all online? Thanks for the help dslextreme! |

I'm assuming you're talking about the offer that Verizon is running where they give you a "free" wireless router. I don't think DSL Extreme is running this same deal; someone correct me if I'm wrong.
From what I've read, Verizon was charging $100 on your bill for the wireless router, then giving you a rebate form that you can send in to get the $100 back from Linksys in 6 to 8 weeks, which,to me, really isn't free. -- Secure-Wifi.Net: database of 27,878 Wireless APs in the LA/OC area. |

| reply to Mpnx2 Ok I have signed up! I guess the modem thing really doesnt matter. I have a 2 wire firewall and a switch already. I hope this doesnt take too long but I cant wait to be done with Earthlink. I hope they let me know when I cancel my Earthlink service. Right now it is still active and I have not yet told them to cancel it. |
