:I agree. This sticky fosters
paranoia and that should not be. Look at all the users who recently are freaked out because NAV and McAfee only update once a week. We are seeing people here saying they are leaving these two AVs because they don't update every hour! GEEZ... get a grip people! NAV and McAfee will issue a special update if there is a major oubreak.

is right. If you can't live without updates for your applications for a day, a week, or even a month you have serious problems with your security setup and you obviously do not practice safe hex. I think we should be encouraging the practice of safe hex and a variety of security measures and not emphasizing the daily update of applications. That is not needed if good security measures (including how the user interacts with their computer...ie ..safe hex at all times) are in place. I don't have an AV at the moment but I am not in a panic. I can go a month at least without an AV because I have good security measures in place and I practice safe hex.
We should not be encouraging users to panic and to think that they must have daily, or even hourly, updates or they are doomed to having someone immediately take over their computers. I think the sticky should be done away with and we should go back to how it was before. Before this sticky, there was never any statements about "I'm leaving McAfee because it doesn't update every hour". The sticky has encouraged this aberrant thinking.
Well, it also shows people that certain apps do not update as frequently. You may not view this as a negative, but I do. Yeah, Nortona and Macafee might release as needed, but they have recently been late to the party when releasing emergency updates.
