newsflash..

said by said by some shaw support person:

This information is based upon the posts of a user in a discussion forum rather than on an official statement issued by Shaw. While posters in forums do often make claims of having inside knowledge of the issues with the service in question (whether that service is Shaw or otherwise), there is no way to confirm the accuracy of the information being posted by that user, not to mention the fact that the poster may or may not even be in a position to acquire that information. The only information about the Shaw network which should be taken as fact is that information released by Shaw. At present, Shaw has not taken any position on the situation regarding peer to peer filesharing speeds, and is investigating the situation in order to determine the cause of the issue. If you could provide us with the following information, we would be better able to investigate the problem and take the appropriate action to address it.
Since we got threatened with a lawsuit on monday unless we deleted the posts by the supposed shaw insider (in this topic) and forked over his/her identity, it is my guess that the information is real
I quote: Those statements contain information that is proprietary to Shaw and have
been disclosed in breach of an employer/employee contractual relationship.

Needless to say, we've never bent over for an ISP upset at bad publicity, or forked over anyones identity, and we're not about to start.

ok back to your regular programming..

shaw is definatley capping all of our upstreams the reason why your download sux is cuz your upload is crap rite?

all my friends with adsl with telus are all downloading high speeds but my friends with shaw like me all get crap speeds i say we all cancel shaw and go telus and see what shaws guna do... b4 oct.28 when shaw had there "network fix thing" i had speeds going 100 kb/s + with decent seeds...after that day..well i got crap speeds going 30 kb/s max with uploads going 20 max....but all my dsl friends are going fine so shaw is saying a load of bs that they did not do anything.

Thumbsdown to Shaw 100%

I'm really disgusted by Shaw....time to update my review!!!!

@shawcable.net

I guess from what I heard so far, there is very little what we can do. So, I am packing up and moving to Telus. Although telus's top speed is 2.5mbs, it is way better than what shaw can offer. Friends that I have is on regular telus high speed internet, and their download rate is far better than what Shaw is promissing now (bo hoo hoo on the big bad wolf).

I know telus is no better than Shaw is many ways and telus may take Shaw's mentality and approach in the future, but right here and now, it is way better than what Shaw claimed to be offering.

I know how every is feeling since I am in the same situation, but lord and behold, there are other providers out there, some piggy back of Shaw and some piggy back Telus and so forth. I hope that the next ISP that I find does not piggy back off Shaw. I would not give Shaw the satisfaction of getting payments from me.

That is all.....Good luck to all of you.

Re: BT slowdowns?

WHAT IS THE MOST SENIOR EMAIL ADDRESS WE CAN GET @ SHAW?

NOT TECH SUPPORT BUT V.P. OF PUBLIC RELATIONS?
OR EVEN THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT - THESE PEOPLE WILL
BE ABLE TO FORWARD MESSAGES TO SENIOR POLICY MAKERS
(THE BRASS) THAT WE ARE ON TO THEM AND NEWS THROUGHOUT
THE COMMUNITY WILL LEAVE AND GO TO TELUS.

I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO EMAIL AND SEND THEM OUR VOTE.
TURN THE HEAT UP!

---> corporations only change when
they see potential for real loss in revenue ---

If we say that we are going to start advising all our friends
to go with Telus over Shaw then they might listen and reverse or remove whatever throttle they have going. EMAIL THEM!

Thanks Justin! With your post I too also believe Shawinsiders post.
Typical SHOD reaction! Got caught so now they'll bully their staff and threaten lawsuits to cover their asses! Everyone should dump this sorry organizations products, First it was the Shod Bandwidth Police, now the Ellacoya throttle. Is everyone just waiting to get kicked in the nuts?? The only answer...---> corporations only change when
they see potential for real loss in revenue ---

Anyone notice this ?

As from my last post, it lost network connection again. It was running at a range of 17 -19 kbs for few minutes. Bang lost connection for a split second (I do mean a split second) and download rate is at 1 -2 kbs again

-- from my previous other post (with mod) ----

I had my BT running and monitoring it. It reached rate of 21kbs and shortly after it maintained that speed, my network connection was lost for a second (no more than that)...when it re-established the network connection, my download rate never reached beyond 5kbs. and stays there. When it spikes up to 17 - 19, it happens again. So far, three out of three times, my NIC would lost connection...this implies that my cable modem was reset or nuked by someone...(take a wild guess)

Thanks

You guys have no faith in me, I swear to you they are doing something illegal here. They have made a hasty mistake, they only have two options as I see it. They go public with the switches and lose a bunch of core customers, settle some small lawsuits and go on with life. Or they deny the whole thing, scrap the switches and blame it on network upgrades.

Either way I'm getting you guys a corporate email to harass, I have spent more of my time on this going from Calgary (Corporate) to Vancouver's Bandwidth dept. than any of you guys. I've investigated legal pursuits and will let you know when I know anything. But they're aren't returning my calls, no one "Knows" anything about the switches and right now I'm supposed to be getting an email from "Engineers" who know more than EVERYONE else I've talked to so far. I think regardless of the route they choose, I want an apology....

Giving_UP

@shawcable.net

I went as far as Calgary also and got passed to bandwidth people and they, in turn passed it on to someone who can answer my question. You got the same reply as they gave me. To add to it, they said I will get a response back within 48hours. I will see if I do or not. It looks like they are going by a script handed to them and procedures to follow in event that this happens.

Like I said, I am packing up to either 3web, primus or telus. My money is not good enough for Shaw. May be 3web, primus or telus would see it differently. Money is Money. So, Shaw will loose $55 x 12 = $660.00/year. Loosing 660.00/yr from one customer is invisible for Shaw's accounting. Now, lets times this my 1000 customer (for sake of argument) and take that and times it by 5 years. That $3.3 million they will loose in 5 years. Now let's see whose money is better ? mine or Shaw ? Without us, they cant survice with cable vision alone.

I have not read every message in this thread so excuse me if this
has been covered but I'm on OS X and when I am running
BT I sit at:

0.2 KiB/s dn

Then I fire up Tommatoe torrent and begin a same .torrent download
file, my original BT application will spike up to
like 50 or 60 KiB/a then fade back down to 0.2

What's with that?

Shaze, you have my full support. Please keep us posted! You're our only hope. Well, at least my only hope, as I can't yell at Shaw directly since I'm with 3Web.

Happy and Mad

After 3 months of slow Xterme-I and then follow by 15 days of turtle speed BT(am I insulting the turtle?) . I am now a mad shaw customer, as well as a happy Telus customer.

I have two network card on my computer. one connects to the shaw modem while the other connects to my Telus modem.

For the same torrent, I only get 10 Kb/s max using shaw while I can get at least 90Kb/s on Telus.

The thing that irritates me the most is the fact that they create a service which is arguably targeted at P2P users (Xtreme-I) and this service already has a strict bandwidth limit (50GB) in order to keep consumption at a reasonable level, and then, assuming that this information is true, go ahead and limit P2P bandwidth through backdoor means.

I'm just glad that I seem not to be affected anymore [and haven't been, other than temporarily]. I hope it works out for everyone here, as well.

Shaze, AUP in Burnaby, hey? I work in the same building (in the Metrotower). Maybe I will go up there later this week and talk to the person in charge!

x-shaw

@telus.net

Don't go up in the tower go to the east tower parkade, see if you can get in the primary head end (its in the southeast corner) and see if they have installed these Ellacoya units. CAUTION- Don't be suprised if they won't let you in and all of a sudden your under surveillance for the next little while.:) Even tho' you have done absolutely nothing wrong! Paranoia runs deep at Shaw. Heck, even if you do go up in the tower these modons will probably put you on their "suspect" lists. Ya! They are that bad!
