It's ironic that a Company that for years had massive SNMP holes in it's router software until recently would choose to publicly trash other, competing technologies as being 'less then desirable'.....
From the linked article in the story: "Giancarlo says that Cisco sees ultrawideband as a more attractive wireless technology, noting that Cisco invests where it sees the most promise. "We had an investment in an ultrawideband start up." While Giancarlo did not name the company he referred to, Cisco did invest in XtremeSpectrum Inc., which Motorola Inc. purchased a year ago. That company spent several years working in concert with Cisco lobbying for the UWB standard.
It appears that Cisco is only supporting technology it's invested heavily in to the exclusion of everything and everyone else that may disagree with them...or have a better competing product.
Greed makes the world go around I guess.

Are you kidding me. Have you ever checked out Cisco's IOS. They support stuff just for the sake of saying that they can inter-operate with others. As far as I am concerned they do more to play well with others than most other companies out there.
Sure Cisco may spend more time and effort on solutions that directly impact their bottom dollar but what viable company doesn't. |

| reply to Logan 5 belushi : Why don't they instead as you say "support stuff just for the sake of saying that they can inter-operate with others"? and support WiMax & BPL as well instead of trash talking them??
FYI: The older versions of Cisco's IOS were and are problematic in a wide vareity of areas, but that's beyond the scope of this thread to debate, except to say that I agree with your statement 100% only about the newer (post-SNMP bug) versions. Cisco can and does some pretty amazing things with technology....when properly motivated it seems. |
