It's not fear...it's plain old greed.

If you read the article Cisco admits that they are 'heavily invested' in an ultrawideband startup and that Cisco "invests where it sees the most promise" to the exclusion of everything else around them, even if it could potentially be a better product then what they chose to invest in.
