Thanks everyone for reply.:)
Sorry Iggy, but I didn't had such a screen during install (Win98 SE), and never had it for a previous version.
As it's said: "This option *does not appear* in trial versions of Zone Labs security software.", which seems to be ZAF definitely.
From Help: Even with the "Alert me before I make contact" preference selected in the Overview|Preferences tab, you will not be alerted before sending configuration data to Zone Labs. ... The frequency of data transmission depends upon the configuration of your computer. For most users, data will be sent once per day.
To be very clear, does ZoneAlarm free has became a Spyware?
Regards.;) Charles. |

Etc. 1) Bottom line for many of us is that if you reset all the ZA settings to turn off everything but the firewall, do not allow ZA to autoupdate itself, or monitor your virus checker, or to contact ZoneLabs without asking for your permission, and deny the program permission to specifically identify your IP address when calling out.
2) you should be ok and ZA should be ok to use.
3) If you are not comfortable with the above you may want to use a different firewall, or,
4) Use logging software to monitor traffic to see that no unauthorized contacts occur.
Oh, I forgot, also set the ZA program permissions to XXXX.
That should do it unless anyone has other welcome suggestions. |

| Thank you Cory for your reply and information. Its all about, who do you trust? IMO I don't! While as you say no personal data is obtained or transmitted between the ZL client and your servers, the technology and possibility is present! I am however elated after more than month the phone home issue has been answered.
