| Possible fix for DI-524 and Frimware v1.05
Hello,
I've been experimenting with my D-Link DI-524 Router and firmware version 1.05. As many of you have found out, the router has a tendency to have disconnection/resetting problems after upgrading to this firmware. When I originally flashed to 1.05 my router would diconnect/reset every half hour. The lame D-Link response is to disable UpNp, whicj has helped no one. I don't know if this wil work for you, but it appears to have done the trick for me.
1. Save the 1.05 firmware to your desktop. 2. Before flashing, take a pin or something small and reset your router to factory defaults by holding in the reset button . This will delete all your settings and your login will be admin with no password. I can't remember how long you must hold it till the router reverts to factory so hold it at least 20 seconds. 3. Before you do anything else, sign into your router and flash the new firmware. Do not begin changing settings or anything till you have flashed and restarted the router. After you do that, run the Wizard.
See if this works for you guys as I'm curious. Its been a week now and I have't had anything show up in my event viewer.
Good luck! |

| reply to denzilla Denzilla,
Just to confirm that this has been reported as the situation with other router upgrades. Something about starting with the Crash Recovery leaves a more stable router after the upgrade.
I don't own the 524 ... but I did do this on my upgrade to my 624 and it's worked flawlessly. -- Robb Topolski http://www.funchords.com/ Hillsboro, Oregon USA |

| reply to denzilla Makes pretty good sense to me, I bought a 524 with 1.05 factory installed. I haven't had a single issue with about a month of usage. I am really impressed with the stabilty....

@charter.com | reply to denzilla D-Link should be suggesting this method to its users if it has merit. Definitely worked better than their suggestion of disabling UpNp. |

Thanks, denzilla

After a long, perfect run with no disconnects, the router has again, started rebooting for no reason. I'm saddened by this as I really thought I stumbled upon a fix for the problem. To those that have tried my method, I apologise. If your router is still trouble free, congrats, but it will not last I'm afraid. Mine started rebooting again after I manually rebooted 3 times while changing settings.
This is the last straw for me. I'm buying a new NON-D-Link router as soon as funds permit. What makes me feel even worse is that I got a couple of people to buy D-Link routers when I first got mine. I was impressed with the trouble free setup and ease of configuration. I feel as though I need to purchase a new router for these people as well. |

@charter.com | reply to denzilla 1. I don't use emule. 2. The problem isn't only with wireless, its affecting the hard-wired computer as well.
Thanks anyway. |

| reply to denzilla Uh...no. Why the hell didn't I think of that? I did rest the router back to factory defaults and loaded my settiings back from a file. The router appears to be stable once again. Not changing my mid getting rid of it though. This stupid D-link trash will be outta my house within 90 days! |

| reply to denzilla Experienced the same thing. Used the crash recovery method to re-load 1.05. Worked OK for several days then started resetting both wired & wireless connections. Dropped back down to 1.03 and things have been working well. Think I'll just leave it at the older version until D-Link can put out something more stable. -- Agristar 200/DW6000/G4R-1250H/99W/XP Pro on 3 systems (behind a router). |

@sympatico.ca | I know how to fix the prob. what i did is: i went to support.d-link.ca to get firmware 1.05. the first page is to tell DI 524 users not to call D-Link. then download the 1.05 firmware from there. Remember, do not use eDonkey network. It sould be ok |
