| Replace Nav 2003 with ????
Getting that time to make a decision, NAV 2005 or something else?
I see where lots of people love KAV Pro.
One big requirement I have is ability to detect viri inside of archive files, .zip,.rar,.gzip, etc
Sorry no mcafee products for me.
The PC is a P4 1.5mhz machine with 512meg ram. It is my understanding the Nav 2005 is somewhat "heavy" on the cpu.
I recode mpeg/avi/vob files alot and also make heavy use of Quickpar, so i need to milk every mhz out of my CPU, not give it to an AV program.
Suggestions?
Thanks |

Thanks Spend the $100 you'd use for AV over the next 2-3 years on a faster CPU and more RAM, and use a free AV?

I am more than half serious.

| Also, a related suggestion -- if you're not multitasking (surfing, working, etc.) while recoding, there's no reason at all to leave the AV up. Just shut it down. If you've got a router, you can shut down your software firewall too.
Of course, start it up again when accessing any new files or resuming other work.

Checking over at the NAV site, looks like I can get Nav 2005 for $20.00. Well worth $$$. So looks like I will remain a Nav guy for now. |

| Oh I certainly wouldn't, if resources are your priority.
Check out lighter stuff like AVG and NOD32 and F-Prot.
This comes up a lot. Some recent threads at
»Low resource AV with good configurability
and
»Anti-Virus
Good luck.

| Of course it runs fine.
The problem is that no OTHER programs can eek out any CPU time at all...
Keeding. Keeding.
