 disconnects since 1mb upgrade

i have been using a binatone 500 dsl modem for 12 months without problems on 512k broadband, and recently i upgraded to 1mb...from moment i was upgraded,my modem started disconnecting frequently, yet not unless i was doing certain things...for example,i can download/upload continuously for 9hrs+ without problem...however if i was to,say, open a few web pages,or,say, edit a few text documents etc while i am up/downloading,my connection disconnects within 20 mins.(sometimes within a few mins).
simularily,if i am,say, just playing a game online and nothing else, like quake or any other online game,i find within 30 mins or less i am disconnected....line check by isp and phone company say al is AOK,modem config testers/programs say i have my modem configured properly and no enhancement required as packet loss etc etc is minimal and is configured for best performance...download speeds are good and as per my upgraded connection, yet the problem persists...isp tells me its probably my modem faulty, yet at same time i find this hard to beleieve since was working fine right upto the second my line was upgraded.they also tell me the modem(which they supplied,)is made to take in excess of 2mb connection, and that should be able to take the jump from 512 to 1mb without problems at all...
being an avid online game player the frequent disconnects within 30 mins is REALY getting on my nerves, and i do not want to buy a new modem just to find the problem persists, which all line and modem tests would indicate is more likely than the modem being faulty, especialy since was working fine right upto second my line was upgraded and it only disconnects when i am doing multiple things not single like downloading.(i am presuming a faulty modem would disconnect within 30 mins regardless what i was doing online,or at very least would disconnect when am using for something that strains it most, which i would assume downloading at 100kb while uploading at 30+ would do?)
anyway if anyone has any suggestions as to the cause and/or a solution or could tell me what to ask isp/telephone company to look for if think they the fault it would be mega appreciated? (would something as simple as a year being used to 512 connection then having to tackle 1mb make my modem have problems potentialy?)

basics using both prior to and after upgrade from 512k to 1mb...

running win2k pro sp4 build 2195
150gig normal hd
250gig sata hd
audigy 2 sound card
radeon 9800 pro 128mb vid card
nvidia motherboard x86 family with 2100mhz amd processor
768 mb ddr ram (512+256)
phoenix award bios v6
standard IE6 with all updates plus additional sun java installed to run mozilla browser (IE set as default, mozilla optional)
dvd rw/cdr combo + cdr/rw drives
standard floppy drive

just so know not to suggest this,i have already tried reformating hd,reinstalling windows, downloading all updates again and unpluging and reinstalling the modem, had my line checked by tel.company, speed and configure tested the modem, double checked bios for any obvious settings, and intend to try and find someone localy with broadband to let me play a game online for 30 mins or untill disconnect to see if does same.)
