| Bad News for Tampa fiber
Tampa fiber has been delayed a bit according to local media. Apparently Hillsbrougho county (where tampa resides) provided old water line maps. Verizon has hit water and sewat lines that have to fix and replace in multiple spots in tampa. Also Verizon has fired two sub contractors in the tampa area who were laying the fiber in the ground.
So now Verizon is waiting new maps and need of new sub contractors. |

One would think that the repairs should have been done by the entity who supplied the incorrect information... not the company following the maps. Yes, there are several methods of validating the maps... however, sometimes we are only as good as the information we are given. |

| reply to stonecolddsl Looks to be in Metro Tampa. I saw that news report last night.
So go figure: people want high speed as if it were their given right on one end; Verizon contractors do shoddy work on the other end..so; people blame Verizon.
Whats going to happen? Fiber deployment slows down so Verizon can do repairs to the scape and waits for the county to get them newer maps. Waiting for those maps from the county will be like waiting for snow to fall in Tampa.
At the end; people will be pissed at Verizon and still bicker for high speed.
So what will it be? Dig up the yard for your fiber or forget you and stay with dial-up?
No winners here. Verizon should have taken their time to get good contractors and should NEVER wince at customer incessant demands for high speed fiber in areas that already have DSL. It should have been a planned and gradual upgrade.
And the people yearning for fiber? Chill!
Heck! It took me 5 years to get DSL. |

| reply to SquareSlinky So they were at my end. They dug up a whole side of the street and finished up this past week. They then came in with concrete to repair what they dug up and sod for the rest. I even saw one guy watering in the sod for 3 days.
This is an isolated incident. Shoddy contractor work exists in all industries. You identify it, you fire them, you fix whats broken.

You people waiting for fiber will get it...atleast you don't have to worry about snow storms in the winter slowing down work like we in MA do! They said Q1 of next year in my area and that's in the middle of winter.
Lucky for us, it's only being suspended from telephone lines and not dug into the ground. Digging trenches for conduit with a few feet of snow on the ground wouldn't be too productive. |

| reply to stonecolddsl I assume they can not go long on the stoppage. The longer they stop for this the longer they go with the project. Also, since they were everywhere down here, there are piles of dirt and incomplete digging in peoples yards. I can see 4 large piles of dirt on 4 peoples landscaped yards.
At least I am hoping they will not stop for long. |

| The mayor should have taken action against Verizon's contractors. Arent they supposed to call before they dig? Outdated maps is an excuse.
Here in NYC all roads are marked where the cables are. There are dozens of communities across this nation that were dug successfully without issues to the extent such as this. There are always accidents and accidental cuts. NYC's cable system is a maze itself and you dont hear about water main breaks or road sinkholes. RCN built out dozens of miles of fiber in NYC Roads with no issues which made media headlines like this. |

Man, don't you hate it when you are trying to ditch school and a hole opens up and takes you there anyway? |
