1 edit | Spybot caught Resellerratings trying to install...
hi all was looking for a cheap copy of WinXP Pro and now I have found something that I consider bad. Seems like Double Click and resellerratings.com have teamed up together.. Plus if you accept that they ask if you want to install something, don't quote me on this, called Ad revenue or something of that nature. the accompanying pic is what I get as soon as I click the search button on resellerratings.com. I'm really glad I have Spybot on this computer |

1 edit | Unfortunately, when you go to the trouble of looking for something cheap, you often don't get what you bargain for. Doubleclick and any form of it has been in my restricted files since I first learned about it and I don't know a thing about resellerratings.com so can't comment on them. What you might be referring to with Ad revenue might be Avenue A, and that is also a no no on my system. What it comes down to, IMO, is that sometimes you do get what you pay for. |

ResellerRatings is a very reputable site -- I use it all the time to check on the reputations of on-line stores. (Never used them for product searches though.)
I'm therefore surprised about this.
I'm not seeing any DoubleClick OR other banner ads there under Mozilla, let alone an installation attempt.
Anybody else duplicate this dropper attempt?

Yes, make sure you will select "Block all pages silently"
You can find it in SSD>Immunize. Under "Permanently running bad download blocker for IE"

| Spybot is just blocking a Doubleclick cookie, not something that's all that terribly bad to begin with.
Maybe a future version of Spybot S&D should offer the option to silently block cookies but still notify if real badware gets blocked. -- SMTP: Spam and Malware Transfer Protocol. Also used on rare occasion to transmit e-mail messages. |

Just a cookie?
What's with "Plus if you accept that they ask if you want to install something, don't quote me on this, called Ad revenue or something of that nature."

1 edit | said by Name Game :Cookie ??? Naw that is not a blocked cookie..doubleclick servers up ads now..;) Banner ad, served by Doubleclick, drops a cookie. They've worked that way for years. Spybot and AdAware detect Doubleclick cookies, along with other ad-tracking cookies, and remove them. I've never used Spybot's resident protection, so I don't know if it serves as an ad-blocker, or just a cookie blocker. But the on-demand scan targets the cookies left behind by DoubleClick, AvenueA, etc.
Doubleclick doesn't install any programs/spyware, they are just an ad host that uses cookies for tracking. -- SMTP: Spam and Malware Transfer Protocol. Also used on rare occasion to transmit e-mail messages. |

Yes, that's what I thought too. But again, then what does the OP mean by "Plus if you accept that they ask if you want to install something, don't quote me on this, called Ad revenue or something of that nature." ?
Are you saying that whymeintrouble is simply mistaken or infected with Spyware?

| do you mean that spybot is going to popup and ask each time if you want to install a cookie ??? man I do not think so..if that were the case then your finger would wear out hittin the mouse button.. I hadn't used it but certainly get anything horrendous when going there this AM that had to do with Doubleclick or Avenue A. |
