FIOS = CHAOS

It's amazing how the fiber is causing all this problem when the copper seems to have been laid with very little fanfare.

Looks like it's time for Verizon to find a new fiber installation contractor.

That's because when all the copper was buried long ago, there were far fewer pipes, sewers, electrical cables and whatnot underground. Verizon is laying fiber optic cable in heavily populated areas with many obstacles beneath the ground that were not there previously.

And who knows how much of the previous buried stuff was actually marked correctly. Or if company X buried gas pipes, was bought by Y who then sold the route to Q who then took the route and spun it off making company M. You really think in a situation like what I described accurate records were passed along?

RIGHT ON THE MONEY!
It's happening to Tampa and will happen to every other metro area covered by Verizon that is pending FIOS.

The city will blame them for the broken pipes but who is blaming the city for the outdated plans?

Totally of topic from Verizon, but up here in canada, its opposite, Here in Alberta, were actually getting a fall! usually winter (snow) starts by the end of october, and continues till march. this november has been like a real fall for once. It snowed, but then melted, and has stayed like that for a few weeks.

I agree with you 100%. All the franchise fees that municipal governments eagerly collect from telegraph and cable TV subscribers are supposed to be used to keep track of where all of this stuff is underground. Someone needs to investigate why certain municipal governments are not taking this responsibility seriously.

And yes, it is a serious public safety issue. All it takes is one axe to a gas pipeline to cause a massive explosion which can hurt or kill many people.
