Friday, November 19, 2004
To all the friends and worldwide family of Roelof. Roelof passed away on Tuesday, November 16. For those of you who have followed this weblog, you know not only of his struggles, but also of his grace, faith, and courage in dealing with them. Throughout the past few years, Roelof and Loela were strengthened by your prayers, your thoughts, and your friendship. While Roelof's life on earth may have ended, his work in Heaven has only just begun. Remember Roelof not for his accomplishments, which were indeed numerous, but remember him for the faith that he showed in following a life with Christ, the life that he lived, and the grace and courage that he showed to us all when confronted with adversity. We should rejoice in the time when he was present with us, and look forward to when we can meet again. |

Not to long ago, 11/14/04, Roelof was Seti BOINC member of the day. That was in the least a nice touch by Seti for him to make those headlines. In our forum and our hearts Roelof Engelbrecht will make headlines everyday. Many of us use his wondeful program Seti Spy and may not even know who created it. His contributions continue to move forward with Seti users and it seems as if he is with us all the time. Roelof, I wanted to say Thanks!
God bless you.
Best, bb. --

1 edit | reply to heaphus It's sad but like Roelof himself said in one of his last weblog postings:
"Of course, everyone will die one day, so I consider myself blessed that I have a "heads-up" to allow me to get all my affairs in order and say my goodbyes."
May we ALL one day be so blessed ourselves when the time comes and we're called away....:(
Roelof: Be comforted in knowing that your contribution to the S@H project touched the minds and hearts of literally millions of project participants which is no small feat to accomplish.
Roelof made the public awareness of PSC an important item for him and while managing to remain "low-key" about his ultimately fatal condition, did manage to raise over $50,000us toward the cause.
Sir, you will be missed by many in the Distributed Computing community, but never forgotten!! Rest easy and enjoy the peace that escapes SO many. |

It wasn't sudden by any means but it's still heartbreaking. Glad to see he's gone to a better place though.
