| Object Dock!
I tried this little program way back when, and it seemed a bit buggy. It is now at version 1.05, so I gave it another try. This thing works smooth as can be, and can be a total replacement for all those desktop icons. It even auto hides for a totally clean desktop! Heres a description and link!
"ObjectDock is a program that allows you to have a nice animated launchbar/taskbar on your screen that reacts to your mouse when you mouse over it. In short, it's a task bar and program launcher that does it with style".

And a screeny!

| reply to Keizer So this program take you're icons on your desktop and put them in a toolbar? If that's the case wouldn't it be easier to make a folder and put all you desktop items in it and than clicking on your taskbar and highlighting toolbar and clicking newtool bar and clicking on your new folder you just made for the items that was on your desktop? |

| reply to Nogard is me I am not at my PC, but I do know on my system when I am scanning through all the icons, and it is going through the animation process, my cpu usage goes to about 25%, but goes back down to nothing after the selected program is chosen. Not sure what memory use it has while sitting un-used and hidden. I will check when I am back at my PC.

2 edits | reply to Nogard is me said by Nogard is me ::) How much Mem does OD use? Does it cause problems with screensaver mode? Ok, back at my PC. My screenshot shows the memory use for object dock. I have seen it as low as 412K when not using it. The program does not have any CPU usage when running and idle. On my system, it does tap into the cpu pretty good (50%) when running the mouse cursor back and forth over all the icons. But then that causes constant animation, which is always a cpu intesive task.Plus that is something you would not be doing, unless you are bored and looking for something to do! Keep in mind that OD has settings for Transition smoothness/speed options. You can adjust these settings if you have a slower system.

| reply to Keizer Been using ObjectDock for a while now and I love it .
To get really nice icons/png's to use on your dock, you can use a program like icon sushito convert ico's to png and vice versa. If your not afraid to part with a bit of cash, then I recommend Axialis Iconworkshop. Once purchased, you get free upgrades for life . It even comes with a Photoshop plugin which is great to make your own or just modify existing ico/png's.
A few good places for ico's and png's:
»icons.deviantart.com/os/win/
»www.aqua-soft.org/board/forumdis···php?f=41 - MAY need to register to get some.
»www.aero-soft.com/board/forumdis···php?f=39 - MAY need to register to get some.
And a good place for Docklets, Docklet backgrounds, Dock icons etc, etc...is here:
»www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=29 - MAY need to register to get them.

After installation, it has a clock, and my computer, and a few others if I remeber correctly. It does not automatically put all your desktop icons in the list for you. You just have to drag and drop them to customize it. You can also take the ones out that you don't want. You will want to get custom icons to use because the originals are a little blurred when they are magnafied.
And yes, they are just shortcuts!
