| [Satellite] Dish-Cleaner-Uper?
Is there anything out there, like a large broom or brush, that will clean my satellite dish of debris? I have it mounted on my apartment building, and at times when it snows (like it did three days ago for the first time this season) I'd like to clean it out before signal drops tremendously. I don't own a ladder so that's not an option, and my broom handle won't reach that far.
Any links or ideas to a tool that someone has manufactured to make this cleaning process easier?

| I don't know much about snow but it should not be a very big issue for attenuating the signal.
Anyway, just get an extension pole for the height you need with a threaded end on it. Then find a small broom end or brush that will screw onto the end.
Don't hit the dish too hard or you will be getting a ladder.  |

So people say to spray something like "Pam" on the dish to make it non-sticky, i.e. slippery. Snow or ice just slides off of it. In the 5 years or so I had satellite though, I only had to clean it off 3-4 times and then it wasn't snow, but ice build-up that caused a problem.

| Well yes, I should have specified. It was the ice buildup that caused me some issues the other night. Then again, this was the first snowfall since living in my apartment building since getting service on my own after having it with my parents since 1998. Funny thing is, after I went and did a signal test it showed both peaking at 97 and went back to viewing TV, it didn't have to acquire signal anymore from satellite 1 (or 2). And the ice didn't melt until a few days later (when the rest of the ice on creation melted) as opposed to a few seconds after I went to check the physical status of the dish. Oh well.

Snow, even moderate snow, should1n't effect it too much but significant accumulation would. Ice definitely will. With freezing rain, it actually is ice accumulating on the LNB shroud that causes the problem.
Pam will work, but doesn't last long. Silicone spray is suppose to work longer. You can find it in autopart stores to spray on rubber trim to prevent doors from sticking. |

| The Heated Dish is called the Hot Shot. My cost is $49.00 so I would assume add $15-20? You want to avoid spraying the dish with pam for these reasons. 1.The Oil destroys the protectant that was originally put on your dish. 2. The Solar glare it creates can damage the LNB. It creates more static elec. on the dish which is also bad for the LNB. You can buy dish covers which work the best for keeping everything off, but there pretty ugly imho. |
