| reply to drake ZoneAlarm Pro version 5.5.062.000 Product update service expires in 82 days (I will renew) My copy is unregistered, but still seems to work. A router will be added within a week, but it's primary purpose will be for multiple connections with the security attributes just a byproduct. -- Dave said "By the way, 4294967295 is just another way to write -1". |

| reply to drake ZAP. Had Linksys BEFSR41 router in place, but due to freeze-ups and no "off" capabilities, I'm back to just ZAP. I'll take my chances. Other apps include NAV Pro 2004, Spywareblaster, Spywareguard, IE-Spyad, locked down IE & Outlook Express, don't surf for porn, p2p, warez, etc. Education (voraciously read this forums's security threads) & exercising common sense are my best defenses. May fire NAV Pro 2004 to use McAfee instead, however. -- Rocky is, was, and always will be Dawg E. Dawg. |

1 edit | reply to drake At home, it depends on which computer and OS I use!
All computers are behind an old Netgear RT311 router (latest firmware with custom rules from Netgear forum). And all OS' are updated always.
XP Pro. SP2 (all updates) = Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5 (mostly to control outbound access)
Debian (Kernel 2.6.8-1-k7) = None, but turned off most services.
MacOS X (10.2.8) = Its internal firewall
--
At work, I use NIS 2004 (all LUs).
I still need to secure my computers regardless where I am. -- Ant @ The Ant Farm: »antfarm.ma.cx ... Please do not IM/e-mail me for technical support. Use the forum (I check almost daily)! | reply to drake Smoothwall with Snort IDS, Guardian mods installed. Run ZAF on laptop for school. Webserver (linux) has iptables running on it. Desktop has nothing.
all the adaware spybot crap well I have it and might run it once a month but usually every couple of months. still don't have very much stuff on my system at that point. I don't have the need to run it daily like I have noticed people posting in this forum do. If you know what you are doing you shouldn't be having a problem really. |

Use Smoothwall Express v2 on an old pentium box that was built from leftovers. »www.smoothwall.org/
I also use Windows XP SP2 firewall on the clients, it hasn't hurt anything, but figured the *NiX needed the votes. |
