[COMCAST] 30 second skip on 6412 DVR

I just got done finding some useful information on www.avsforum.com regarding the Motorola 6412 dual-tuner DVR box. I tried the following and it worked flawlessly for me.

The following instructions will re-program the "HD Zoom" button on the remote control to function as a "30 second fast forward" button. Works perfect for skipping through commercials. It will function when playing programs recorded on the DVR & also when playing a buffered program.

1) Press the "Cable" button at the top of the remote to put it into Cable Box control mode.

2) Press and hold the "Setup" button until the "Cable" button blinks twice.

3) Type in the code 994. The "Cable" button will blink twice.

4) Press (do not hold) the "Setup" button.

5) Type in the code 00173 (for 30 second Skip).

6) Press the "HD Zoom" button to map the skip or swap function to it.

7) You're done.

And just a side note... you do not have to use the HD Zoom button. You can choose whichever button you wish. I personally use the FAV button. Many other use the "Stop" button as it's not really needed for DVR.

True... forgot to mention that.

I just prefer to use the "HD Zoom" button, because I don't use it. I do however have channels marked as favorites, so the "Fav" does get some use on my remote.

Are you running the DCT-6412 DVR? I cant get the 30sec. skip to work on mine. Are you using the comcast remote or a aftermarket one? any help or input on this would be great

thanks

Yup I'm using the Motorola 6412 DVR and the remote that came with it...

What problem are you having?

@comcast.net

We have the remote control "ENT-6412-3005 AB" and it does not have a "Setup" button. Because of this missing button, I cannot follow your instructions. Do you know if there is a corresponding "Setup" button on the "ENT-6412-3005 AB" remote control?

Thanks,

Mark T.

@comcast.net

The link below has an image of the remote Comcast gave us. The only difference is that we only have four device buttons at the top, and not six as in the image.

BTW we are in Boulder, CO.

How do you re-program the HD Zoom button back to normal if you want to do so in the future?

There are all the codes. Do the same procedure as in the original post, just replace the 00173 with whatever code you want. You need to put two zeros in front of the codes listed on that page. So if you want the Music function on a button use code 00082.

I was able to program the Music channels to come straight up by pressing the TV/VCR button that I never used before. Very nice.

Sbud

Thanks. I didn't see the HD Zoom button on the list. So if I want it to go back to default, what is the code? And how did you know that 173 was 30 second skip? It just says "N"?

Steve

Look at the PVR functions at the bottom, it says Skip. I think it's N if you don't have a DVR box.

sbud

Oops, didn't see that. How do you go back to HD Zoom? (If you want to)

Does HD Zoom ever do anything?

This apparently only works with the iGuide or blue guide. It works with the 6208 DVR also. It is reported to not work with the Microsoft software that being tested in Washington.

Nope, I have the MSTV in Seattle and the HD Zoom did nothing at all.

Has anyone in the Seattle area running the 6412 with the Microsoft software(MicrosoftTV logo in upper corner of program guide) gotten the 30 second skip code to work? I have tried it on both the included remote and on my universal Radio Shack remote(15-1994) with no success. A friend has also tried on his unit with no luck either.

Thanks for you help!

I never got the 30 second skip to work pieterw, and I'm in Seattle with the MSTV and 6412. I got the other codes (I posted the link further up) like Music and such programmed just fine to buttons like TV/VCR but never the 30 second skip. Must only work on the iGuide or other interfaces.

I never saw an answer on how to program the ENT-6412 for the 30 second skip. Did I miss it? I see the codes but no instructions on how to enter the code into the remote....

Comcast has disabled the 30 second skip

I'm not completely sure of it but everything I've tried leads me to believe this is the case. I have yet a different remote from you folks above and I can still program about every function on the codes list into my remote EXCEPT the 30 second skip. It's the only one which doesn't work. Motorola's site specifically mentions the function is provided optionally, see your cable provider so I believe Comcast has likely disabled it. I'll call them to confirm but that's what it looks like. I'm in Seattle as well.
