It's funny because the dialup probably outperforms the satellite connection. |

This Whole thing is just another nail in Sat BB's Coffin.
I think I will stick with my p*ss poor dial up for now.

| reply to ced06 Well..I can officially say this...I used to be a Licensed Starband--DirecWay installer; I was the first one at the satellite installation shop I worked at (back in 1999-2002) to install a Starband at my home...I was on the "Pilot" program that Starband offered as beta testing before they went into the public sector...The biggest issue that Starband had on their initial release was the NOC was not stable, and their support staff were completely ignorant & untrained...The reason these issues were such a problem was because they were attempting to beat Directv--DirecWay onto the 2-Way broadband satellite market...When I was still on the system, it was pretty decent as far as speeds; however the latency issues were horrible...If you wanted to have a conversation using voice in Yahoo Messenger (for instance) the latency would cause you to "cut out" while in the middle of a sentence...Since the initial public release the speeds have become less and less on the downstream side not to mention that they were NEVER good on the upstream...As soon as DSL via Prodigy--SBC were available in my area I cancelled my service with Starband...And I'd had free service for almost a year, not to mention I was on a cluster that the public wasn't even being assigned...I own and operate a PC and Networking business, and I'm also the Operations Manager for a locally owned dial-up access company...The owner of that business recently had a copper T-1 installed at his location and called Starband up and told them to kiss his a**...He was not paying for the last month's service because of their lack of Technical Support, constant 24/7 service (as stated in the contract) which constitutes a breech in their guarantee for "always on" service...So for those of you that are still on Starband I do feel pitty for you... |

1 edit | reply to ced06 Genius.. Starband doesnt have a FAP bucket. Starband uses the no transfer cap at lower speed model, whereas DirecWont uses capped transfer at high speed model.
I'll keep my Sat link thank you. Least till a terrestrial option comes along.
Reading about this makes me glad I'm on GE4 instead of T7. No outages here. |
