| Show Your ObjectDock And Non-Traditional Desktops I have been messing around with modifying the Windows GUI and wanted to show what I had done, and see how others have used Object Dock or other programs which change the Windows user interface.
Here are the three docks I use to replace all of the Windows functions. I use the docks hidden, so they pop-out with mouse activity. If you are not familiar with Object Dock, the Icons "swell" to a larger size and the text appears when the mouse hovers over them.
In some of the captures you see the "flyout menu" feature. The arrows to the left and right of each menu allows the files/icons to "carosel" if there are more files than can be seen.
One capture also shows the Windows Start Menu which is brought up when clicking the "Start" icon. There are many small programs called Docklets which allow you to get rid of the Start Menu, but I find it easier to keep it.
Many of my icons are also animated, such as the Nero icon where the flames move.
I find I need to keep a Object Dock link on the desktop, as on occasion the program will shut down, and since the Windows taskbar is hidden, I need a desktop link to restart OD. I also keep a link to the game I am currently playing as I find games more stable if I turn OD off before playing. I would like to get the Recycle Bin off the desktop, but I don't think this can be done under Windows.
I have also changed my Windows icons and skinned Windows as well.
All of this uses some resources, but I have a powerful computer to have fun and use it!
Extra points if you know what my wallpaper is about.

I use the free version, which has a small footprint, and great animation! I have never experienced the occasional shutdown that you mentioned. I also have my dock set up to auto hide.

| Re: Show Your ObjectDock And Non-Traditional Deskt You are going to have to redo your dock as a regular dock, not a tabbed dock. Your first choice is "Create a new dock" or "Create a new tabbed dock". Just choose the non-tabbed button. | |

| Re: Show Your ObjectDock And Non-Traditional Desktops On wincustomize there is a icon animation docklet, and at least the pay OD version also includes one. Depending on the animated icon you use you need one or the other. Wincustomize also has a selection of animated icons. To do my desktop I used the pay version of OD and Windowblinds, plus the free versions of Icon Packager, Icon Developer, and Cursor XP. All are available from www.stardock.com . | |

It didn't require any further thought! It's really, really cool I am going to have to start calling you Mr. Fickle. I started a thread a short time ago about object dock. Find it here. »Object Dock!
My screenshot was your reply about installing it! Sometimes beauty takes the lead of performance!

My screenshot was your reply about installing it! Sometimes beauty takes the lead of performance! Keizer I won't be able to play with it now, unfortunately. If I use this, I'd like it to completely replace my taskbar, start button, AND tasktray. That, at the moment, seems impossible. Well, not impossible.. but it'd probably take me a WHILE to accomplish that :/.. I don't regret buying it though. It's definitely worth it . Thing is, I doubt I'll be able to get used to not having a taskbar at all.. we'll see. For now I think I'll just slap one docklet to the top edge and load it with my favorite programs and just get rid of quicklaunch! That seems like a nice function . Well, you see, I now also use GoBack. So, even though I love performance, I see that now, I can totally afford these types of toys.. because I'm starting to realize that I'm not a gamer anymore . I am at heart, but with a laptop, gaming automatically dies . There's just no point in trying to keep up with games on a laptop . Therefore, I can invest my machine's power into fun stuff like this . I could easily sink hours and hours into playing with ObjectDock.. I mean, finding new icons alone for all my software will be a beaaaatch. And I do have to do that if I want to use it in this way, because the default icons, with magnification.. just look, uhm.. well, AWFUL. Furthermore, just the sheer possibilities ObjectDock offers are almost endless..
I'm doomed. -- ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Who needs sigs/cigs (I quit smoking )? Pay attention to the above! ^^^^^^^^^^^^

| The one docklet that i love the most is the "show and hide taskbar " docklet. Its just an easy way to toggle your taskbar on and off.
The one i use the most is the "start menu" docklet.
Both of these can be found at ... »www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?l···klets=on -- I do not trust FireFox.

| There are a number of docklets at wincustomize to put your tray on a dock (check my screenshots above, my tray can be seen to the right on the bottom dock)put your start menu on a dock (see screenshot above also)as well as many other Windows functions. I find it is easier to leave the start menu intact on a dock. I am a gamer and simply turn OD off when I play a game, and notice no loss in performance. I do have a powerful computer and vid card though. It took me about a day to get used to the new configuration. Some aspects are faster, some a bit slower (but just a bit, I have little tolerance for slow or overly complex computer function)but everything sure is much more fun. | |
