Host Excellence...scam?

Hello everyone,

Due to my webhosting company closing down and no longer accepting renewals I have been looking for a new host. I was after one that offered (amongst other things) multiple domains and unlimited email accounts. I had almsot decided to choose »www.HostExcellence.com but after some brief research I discovered this:

According to this, not only is »www.HostExcellence.com a scam but the following:

»www.ixwebhosting.com/

Does anyone know anymore about this?

Also, if this is a scam, what would people recommend as a alternative that provides decent bandwiths, stats, ecommerce, unlimited email and ftp, most of the extras like CGI and PHP and allows you to host more than one domain?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Notice the forum on that site,

Only 15 people registered that may have a horror story? Doesn't seem like the tragic catastrophe they make it out to be.

But anyway that's not directly related to HostExcellence.
Regarding HostExcellence, I've heard about them before, though I've heard of IX WebHosting even more. I have no doubt from what I hear that they both have decent service and support. Just my two cents.

No matter what hosting company you choose, I'd recommend to make sure that they've been in business longer than 2 years, at least. Also having an active community forum on their website is a plus and a good sign. Who knows better than actual customers that are experiencing service in the present.

The following is from a chat session with Host Excellence. I'm scared.. i am not going for them. Plus i read everywhere that the servers go down everyday for short periods of time.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Oxana Kobenko'
Oxana Kobenko: Hello, how may I help you?
you: where are your servers located?
Oxana Kobenko: USA
you: how long have you been in business?
Oxana Kobenko: Hopkinsville, KY
Oxana Kobenko: Since 1999
you: but why then has the domainname only been registered in 2003?
Oxana Kobenko: sorry?
you: the domain name for your website
you: how can you have been in business since 1999 if the domain name was only registered in 2003
Oxana Kobenko: please refer to the information that is on our about us page
you: i have, thats why im asking the question
you: you dont personally work for hostexcellence do you?
you: you are contracted support only right
Oxana Kobenko: no
Oxana Kobenko: i do not work for HE
Oxana Kobenko: yes
you: so who do u work for then?
Oxana Kobenko: techsupport center in auastria
you: whats the company name?
Oxana Kobenko: sorry, i re-read your questions
you: oh really
Oxana Kobenko: the company name is hostexcellence
you: no whats the company name of which you are employed?
you: you just said you do not work for HE
Oxana Kobenko: Oxana Kobenko: sorry, i re-read your questions
you: ?
you: you just said you do not work for HE
Oxana Kobenko: sorry, i can tell you once again that i misunderstood your question
you: really
you: so what did you mean by: i do not work for HE
Oxana Kobenko: i work for ixwebhosting that is the HE's partner
you: but you are based in austria?
you: and the servers are in the USA?
Oxana Kobenko: yes
you: so how do you resolve any downtime problems of the servers in the US when you are in austria?
Oxana Kobenko: i personally do not resolve downtimes. my job when such issue occures is to inform the admin about it
Oxana Kobenko: get the feedback from him and get back to the customer
you: ok how about the testimonials on the website? know anything about them?
Oxana Kobenko: success stories button
you: yes i know.. but they seem to be all fake.. since each of the "sites" are registered by the same person
Oxana Kobenko: what do you mean, sorry?
you: ok each of the success stories has links to their respective websites. If you investigate who registered those sites they are all done by the same person. Furthermore if you read the contents of the sites you will realize that its all very fake...
you: so whats the explanation for this?
Oxana Kobenko: Registrant Contact:
Oxana Kobenko: Proxied Site
Oxana Kobenko: Domain Services (proxy@proxiedsite.com)
Oxana Kobenko: +1.3317768
Oxana Kobenko: Fax: +1.3317768
Oxana Kobenko: 1901 60th Place
Oxana Kobenko: Suite L3416
Oxana Kobenko: Bradenton, FL 34243
Oxana Kobenko: US
Oxana Kobenko: are you speaking about this?
you: yup
Oxana Kobenko: well known that putty service of domain name registrant info cloaking, e.g to avoid spam
you: each of those ppl are aware of this and have implemented this..pretty unliely right.. plus have you read the sites mentioned? none of them have updated their info for a year..
you: not even an address mentioned..
you: pretty dodgy dont you think
Oxana Kobenko: we are not affiliated with those people and actually do not really care that the info placed on these web sites was updated a year ago or so
you: all im saying it looks like they are created by IX of HE or ecommerce or whatever the company you are working for is called
you: i want to go for HE but it all looks a bit scary.. anything i can do to reassure that its all good?
Oxana Kobenko: you can create your web site and it will be placed among those sites and it will be not that scary
you: who owns HE?
Oxana Kobenko: subsidiary company of Ecommerce,Inc.
you: and where is that located?
Oxana Kobenko: ecommerce.com
you: where in the US?
Oxana Kobenko: »ecommerce.com/general/index.comp···p?cat=35
you: where is the head office?
Oxana Kobenko: you can open the "company" page and see everything there
you: doesnt say where the head office is
Oxana Kobenko: please fill out the form that you see online on this question
you: i just want to know the address to the head office.. what is it?
Oxana Kobenko: »ecommerce.com/general/index.comp···?cat=35&
you: like i said the address is not mentioned there.. the address for the head office
Oxana Kobenko: ask in the form
you: you mean you dont know?
you: yet you work for them
Oxana Kobenko: it is not hosting related question. i am not authorized to let out such info
you: is is a reassurance question... i need to be able to trust that this is a legit company.. and you are supposed to help potential customers in realizing this
Oxana Kobenko: i do help you
you: but you cant give the the address?
Oxana Kobenko: that is why i gave you all the information needed on how to get all the answers for your questions
you: ok im gonna give you a site to read.. its a longshot but i hope you can level with me on the information given... »www.featureprice-scam.com/fathi.html
Oxana Kobenko: once again, i am not authorized to let out the info you are asking for
Oxana Kobenko: i gave you the address where you can get it
Oxana Kobenko: and the link you ahve gave me i did see
Oxana Kobenko: thank you
you: have any comments about it?
you: something you did not know?
Oxana Kobenko: once again, i am not authorized to let out the info you are asking for
Oxana Kobenko: sorry
you: hmm
you: you cant comment on the site i gave you?
Oxana Kobenko: I have no comments on this
you: not even.. "they are lying" or "dont believe it"??
Oxana Kobenko: Sir, please ask me questions that I can answer. Thank you for understanding.
you: i know your situation.. but please just answer me this.. did you know about the info on the website?
Oxana Kobenko: Please don't take this as abuse, but please let me know - do you have any other questions?
you: my last was my last.. yes or no?

I just ran across this thread after signing up for Host Excellence about 2 weeks ago. Since no one that has posted has actually used Host Excellence I thought I would give my 2 cents worth based on the short time I have used them.

For starters, my hosting requirement is quite simple. No PHP or SQL or anything.

I signed up for their "Instant" package. It's a good deal at $4.95/mo for 1 GB storage and 50 GB of transfer. I went ahead and paid for two years and the setup was free. Registering a new domain name was free. The annual cost of the domain registration is free.

Setup was done in a matter of minutes after I submitted my info. An email explained everything I needed for ftp, email, etc and it was accessible immediately.

In the two weeks I have used Host Excellence it has worked great with absolutely no problems. There was one time the control panel wouldn't come up but a little while later it was back in operation. I don't know of any time my web site has been down.

My web site is only for downloading a few fairly large files and some links. Download speeds have been great, usually between 250 & 300 KB/sec. I contacted customer support this morning with a question about the control panel and received an answer this afternoon.

Overall I've been very pleased. Hopefully my good experience will continue!

I would like to know what the connection is between Host Excellence and Hurricane Electric. As far as I can see it is only the initials.

This started as a Host Excellence thread and changed to Hurricane Electric in mid-stream. What's the deal?

this topic never realy went anywhere.
So what is the deal with hostexcellence.com nowadays?
I am in dire need of changing hosts for one reason.....SLOOOOOWWWW site response time.
One thing that attracted me to hostexcellence is this
100% money back anytime guarantee
Receive a FULL REFUND on:
100% of the current month's fees
100% of all pro-rated fees left
(except any over-usage costs)

I am tempted to at least try them out with the kind of guarantees they offer.

I want to try them as well. Can i get some stories from people who actually use them instead of reading?
