| Strange Musicmatch Jukebox 10 Issue?
I was just curious if any other MMJB10 users have noticed this... Immediately after installing MMJB 10, I notice a single white pixel in the top lefthand corner of the desktop (I have a dark wallpaper). It only appears after Windows XP fully loads and is not a monitor issue (it is covered by any window placed over it). It's just a very minor thing but I was curious if anyone else sees it. It could be just me, I guess... -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk |

[EDIT] It's gone! A few seconds after I started the uninstall, I watched the white dot disappear before my eyes! Crazy stuff, huh? Now I'll reinstall it as I'd miss my OnDemand! -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk |

| I have found the cause.... Musicmatch 10 installs a process called mim.exe. Go into Task Manager and end the process mim.exe. The little white dot will disappear before your eyes.... If anyone can offer additional info as to what mim.exe is, I'd appreciate it... -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk |

| reply to howie It seems it's loaded at startup by "mimboot.exe". You can go into msconfig and uncheck it so it doesn't load but it's loaded and stays resident every time you run MMJB 10. -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk |

gate1975mlm Premium join:2001-09-30 Philadelphia, PA | I deleted mimboot.exe and now Musicmatch will not start up. So what every it is its needed. |
|
howie Premium,MVM join:2003-04-08 Little Falls, NJ | Oh my! I just unchecked it so it wouldn't start up. You'll need to reinstall MMJB, probably. -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk |

 With mim.exe running. | With mim.exe stopped. | | |
I just found another interesting (and slightly disturbing) thing that mim.exe does and that is that it won't allow you to format a drive while in XP. I have a third hdd (E) that I use exclusively for backup images and I normally format it in Windows when I decide to start fresh with a new full image. It seems that with mim.exe running, it "locks" additional physical drives and won't allow you to format them in Windows. If I try to format, I get the above image (top). If I end the mim.exe process, I can get right in and do the format (bottom pic). I did contact MM asking just what this process is and hopefully they'll get back to me. -- "I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk |
