Has anyone tried afail's suggestion? I would really like to use all of the functionality of "On Demand" in MMJB 10+, but I am really leary of going through the whole install upgrade, uninstall, reinstall 8 routine AGAIN!
Thanks! |

I've been having problems with MMJB overloading MY cpu... taskmaster says that mim.exe is using 80% of my 3.06HT P4- inspite of Seti@home using 96%- Anyway... that LITTLE WHITE DOT is sometimes used as a CHEAT for MS Minesweeper- open Minesweeper, type 'XYZZY' and hold SHIFT key for ONE second- then you get a little white dot when your cursor IS over a mine-or is it the other way around,-Haven't cheated in a while. Going to try to go back to MMJB 9.0- I don't use internet music- I just have TOO many CDs |

said by FDM80 :Well, I think one of the things that is sent every time you start up musicmatch is your Key. They implemented the key check at startup back with v8. Of course the only reason for the check is to see if you have a warezed key. Plus 7.5 was a really great player. Things went downhill ever since then. It's pointless to waste a lot of time improving or implementing warez protection and forget about the actual software.
Now warez people use cracked .exe files instead of keygens. --

I also have the white dot with my MMJB ver10. And when I turn my computer off, it takes longer than usual because it has to shut down a program called "ShellConHiddenWindow" that seems to operate in the background. There's now an error message that pops up whenever I turn on my pc ever since I downloaded their latest update that makes it easier to synch MMJB10 with my mp3 player.
I don't mind there being a dot that small on my screen, but I don't want mim.exe or any other unnecesary processes to load up automatically every time I turn on my computer. Thanks for showing me that "newer" doesn't always equal "better". |

| I found this site on a google search for mim.exe I am also getting the mim.exe shutdown errors & the shellconhiddenwindow shutdown errors. Thanks to all for the links to oldversions.com & the MM archive links to old versions. Also I was unaware that MMJB is now owned by Yahoo & would not have purchased the ver.10 & lifetime upgrade had I known that. I predict alot of spyware in the future as posted in the first email reply from "Shannon @ MMJB" I have been using MMJB for many years & bought a 1 time upgrade back on version 4 or 5. I have always been able to upgrade with that old Key but remained 1 version behind the latest version until version 8.2 came out. I subscribe to radio & was given the "On Demand" free upgrade to my radio subscription. Yes, I had to upgrade the version 10 for the on demand fetur to work, so it was kind of a forced upgrade on me. I love the on demand feature!
IMO I see yahoo working harder on making bugs than fixing the current issues.
With the archive accessable... what is the oldest version I can use & still have my on demand. I think it is 8.2 as that is where I was cut off with my old key.
Thanks to all for the info provided here. Nick |

| reply to afail Afail, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me.
I downloaded the pstools and made a batch file, but I still have the same problem. The batch file executes, it tries to open MM, the splash screen comes up, the chimes sound, but MM never opens. |

| reply to howie Thanks alot guys, after some Googleing I came across this thread. MM worked fine for me until 10, I had all the same problems you guys did and initially thought it was just me until some further research. I've e-mailed MM and still have not even so much as had a form letter response.
I don't want or need MM indexing my drives and accessing the web without my knowledge. If I want to add music to my library it should be MY choice, not Yahoo's. Well, here is a link for MM 9.0 if anyone needs it. I'll be sticking with 9.0 until they force me out of it in which case I will find another app to use.

| reply to howie Re: mim.exe problems: My Thanks to all within the forum who pointed me to the identification and solution of a problem which plagued my system over the past several months. I suspected the mim.exe application when my computer refused to shut down and the pop-up window mim.exe shutting down appeared. When I googled mim.exe I was guided to your forum. You may be interested to know that my problems extended to my media (compact flash) card reader causing it to hang up and necessitate a manual shutdown. It also affected the Windows Device Manager (WDM). It would cause the WDM to hang up also necessitating a manual shutdown. My son, a software engineer, suggested that it was possibly associated with MMJBs portable device manager as found in MMJB version 10. Meerly deleting mim.exe or mimboot from your computer will not provide a permanent fix. My solution to the problem was to uninstall MMJB 10 and revert to version 8.20.0131. (You can go back further if you wish.) Thankfully, you good folks provided me with the link to download the archives. This process required only 10-15 minutes. The only thing I had to struggle with was how to update to the plus version since I have a paid life time free upgrade promise. If you read all the screens carefully, they will direct you where to enter your registration key. If you have problems, contact support (best done through their help option) for detailed instructions. I would also suggest letting their support folks know of your disappointment with version 10. All of my previous problems have now been solved! Yes, there are some shortcomings for those who wish to download music through MMJB and use their portable devices, but for me that loss is minimal compared to the headaches of version 10.

| I also have upgraded to V.10 and have had problems. After uninstalling it and reinstalling it 3 times, it clugs along... BUT... I cannot create an account Nor will the "Now Playing" feature work. When I click either of them, an hourglass appears and won't go away. But I can still play music and look at my libraries etc. The oddest thing about this is... I have the SAME computer at work with the SAME operating system ( WinXP Pro SP2) with all the same firewalls and software and V10 WORKS FLAWLESSLY on my work computer. So now, I have to figure out WHY it works fine on one and not the other. I would think it has something to di with some sort of security setting but don't know what in the world to look at. I have tried disabling all firewalls and it's still the same. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions what to look at? Thanks, Tim |

| reply to howie Like a lot of you, I had numerous issues with MMJB V. 10. I had purchased V 10 after having stayed at 7. for several years and what a sorry disappointment V. 10 was, buggy and missing some of the features I had enjoyed in previous versions....the one that was missing in V. 10 that I missed the most was being able to have multiple libraries. After installing V. 10, I tried to like it, but I just can't and I'm having a lot of issues on my puter that are related it seems. I just went back to V. 9 and I feel better all ready. Has anyone else noticed that they didn't even update the help files for V. 10 on the website? I miss the days when it was a much smaller company. -- You can't have everything, where would you put it? |

| reply to howie Im also having v10 issues. Ive noticed at times cpu usage is going crazy, there are mm exe's in the TM which i dont know what they're doing, there is a *.musicmatch.com entry under my trusted sites in IE which i never put in there, i have DCOM errors in my event viewer that after going through the registry come back to mim.exe - in other words v10 sucks, i downloaded it so that i could rip cd's faster but i think ill be more patient now and go back to another version. thanks all. |

| reply to pratzert I tried a dirty reinstall yesterday and got the message "mim.exe - Could not find Entry Point" into DRMCLite or something like that.
But it did not good. I still could not create an account, Use the On Demand, Radio or "Now Playing" features at all. Just keep getting the Hourglass. So it's GOT to be something about the load and path installation problem. But WHAT ? WHY is it a problem ? So far, I've had no real response from MM Support. I have gotten an email from them asking me for the same information I sent to them when I requested tech support. Why can't they let me TALK to a Live person so I don't have to keep sending the same information over and over. I could describe things much quicker. Obviously it's not just me. I would think Yahoo would throw all it's power behind getting these issues resolved since they just spent a bundle buying MusicMatch. They just bought a product that everyone is going to drop like a hot potato with all it's bugs. Tim |

I fell back to version 8! 9 still wants to phone home upon start and makes it slow and sluggish.
Version 10 is HORRIBLE! It has to rank up there with RealNetworks super "spam" package they push on you when installing RealBadBigBuggy Audio Version 10/11/12/ whatever! ;0 |

| reply to howie I uninstalled MMJ10 using the add and remove software on XP. On rebooting several screens pop up with the message "mim.exe entry point not found", each followed by long entries of what seems like gobbledegook, i.e. a mix of letters, numbers and symbols, and the message 'the procedure entry point in the dynamic link library COREDll.dll could not be located.' Clicking OK on each box lets me into XP, but the CD autostart, Help and Support, and restore system functions (and possibly other functions) seem to be disabled. I can only presume that this is down in some way to uninstalling MMJ10. Has anyone else come across this problem before, and, if so, how did you fix it please? |

| QUOTE: "1)Musicmatch crashes if I attempt to use my mouse wheel to scroll"
Let me bring that old post back...I am experiencing this REALLY annoying bug...no other probs...start-up is ok...and runs pretty fine...
I am a HEAVY user of the mouse wheel...and had to struggle a bit to find out exactly what was causing the MMJB to stop responding...(cos I hardly notice when I am turning the mouse wheel)
a roundabout way to remove the non-responsive state: maximise the mmjb window and then restore it...
the playlist window suffers from the same prob...scroll with the wheel and the tracks disappear...maximise-restore..they reappear!!! |
