Re: Strange Musicmatch Jukebox 10 Issue?

I bought v8 and saw that MMJB was heading down a path I would rather not take. Uninstalled it long ago for 7.5 and my 'puter is happy again.

IMHO v7.5 is the last true unbloated version of MMJB.

Yes White spot is there.

On shutting down WindowsXP (SP2) I get an error when the system tries to close "mim.exe" - but ONLY when my USB-stick is mounted !!!

I have had and used MMJB for the longest time. Recently there program has become bloated. I decided just for giggles to update MMJB 9 to 10 and right away was plagued with a problem.

I had all my music tagged under MMJB 9 but when I upgraded to 10 I lost allot of the tags on my music files or MMJB wouldn't see them. Anyways, I tried to re-tag them and MMJB 10 would crash. Kept on happening till I switched back to MMJB 9.

As for the white dot, is to small to even notice.

I uninstalled it. Cleaned out the registry of everything Musicmatch the best I could, then reinstalled it. Works fine now.

Well, I think one of the things that is sent every time you start up musicmatch is your Key. They implemented the key check at startup back with v8. Of course the only reason for the check is to see if you have a warezed key.

Thanks. I didn't know what version the verification started with.

I read this thread with much trepidation; I set up a new machine this past weekend only to realize I did not have my version 8 install for MM; I foolishly purchased and installed version 10, and that white dot showed up (I realized it was a process and googled mim.exe to find this thread). I have been in touch with MM, and their first response was to ignore what I wrote (quoted this tread, told them about mim.exe, etc) and give the canned "reinstall" spiel...for 20 bucks (for this version) and the extra 40 for lifetime, they should have a better response...now I have a real mad on...anyone know how I can get ver 8??

Here you go:

I went back to version 9 and never heard back from MM about the mim.exe issue and I am a lifetime upgrade/on demand user...

THANK YOU!!! First thing I am going to do when I get home tonight is unintall 10 and reinstall 8..THEN I am going to fire off an e-mail demanding a refund. I work in an IT/help dek, and this is an unacceptable situation!!!

I can't believe they left you (and us) hanging like this. Don't they QA the releases? Surely they knew about this???

My Musicmatch 10 won't shut down, it just hangs and I have to kill it. What a pos. Volume leveling also doesn't work. I second the sentiments about QA'ing a release. There's no way they could have done extensive QA on this. I'll be installing a previous version tonight.

Found this tidbit from someone who actually got some reply from Musicmatch:

"Mimboot.exe is introduced in to start up to run as a background thread when jukebox is closed to watch any music files that you've placed in the library.
Any changes made while jukebox is closed gets updated in the database.
However, when it's idle, it shouldn't be using a lot of resources."

I'm not sure how to really interpret all that... with some of the other things noted here...
For instance does the this mean it also tries to update tag info etc. and may be why it trys to generate internet access ?

Well, for what's its worth, after getting (I kid you not) a canned response on installing version 8...totally ingnoring what what was actually saying, I got the NEXT canned response:

"Thank you for contacting Musicmatch Support. We are sending you this email to update you on the status of your support request. We have reviewed your request and determine that more specialized support is required to address it. At this time, your request has been transferred to our Support Escalations Team for special attention. A representative that specializes in the functional area related to your request will respond to your request soon.

Due to the need for specialized attention, the response time for your request will be longer than our average response time.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We look forward to assisting you!"

So far, with 3 or so exchanges, not one bit of human interaction, and not one mention of my inquiry about getting a refund. I'll say this, they have nerve!!

I remember a few years back, before Yahoo! acquired them, I had an issue and received a prompt, courteous response from MM. Maybe the acquisition of MM by Yahoo! has something to do with the delayed and/or no response issues... I don't know...

[OT but applies to MusicMatch users]

I just noticed on my PC and my daughters that the entry *.musicmatch.com (from the Dell MusicMatch version 9.00.2063) is in our IE Trusted Sites zone. I don't recall ever getting a prompt to allow it to be put there. It must have happened during one of the updates because its been on my system for years and I never had anything in my Trusted Sites zone before (as a general good-security practice).

My question is this, should I allow it to stay there?

Strange Musicmatch Jukebox 10 Issue? - ANOTHER ONE

Okay. I dont get the white dot, but my problem is when ever I connect any of my USB devices, (Jump drives or Palm Sync cradle) I get the error "mim has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". The problem is that it'll finish playing the current on demand or radio song and then MMJB will fail to work after that. The only remedy I've found is whenever I sync up my Palm or plug in my jump drive, I first have to close MMJB, and then kill the mim proccess. After syncing or plugging in, I can launch MMJB again. What a pain in the arse. I read about why the mim is there but I neve use the library. Anyway, I'm going back to MMJB 8. I liked the skins better anyway.

reverting back to MMJB 8

Thanks for all the info and input in this forum, everyone. I noticed the white pixel a few days ago, but hadn't associated it with the new MMJBv10 until I was searching for answers and came across this forum. I've been using MMJB for years, and yes I agree each new version gets more and more bloated.

I just uninstalled v10 and the annoying white dot went away. I'm going back to version 8, at least until they get their stuff together.

Have a great day =)
