Ive used MusicMatch (paid and unpaid) on and off for a while and always found it a snap to use.
However, since v8, it seems to have gone downhill. I did actually find 9 quite useful, but its many bugs made me revert to version 8 again. Now 10 is out, and I eagerly downloaded it (without first googling to see if there were problems stupidly) and installed.
I liked the look, and everything seemed to be going fine (no white dot on mine unless im not looking properly) until it came to importing tracks from a data cd.
This is the error I get: 'Could not obtain device object from factorys:\mmjb\jukebox\mim\devicemanager\DeviceMgrImpl.h(352)'
This error will repeat for each track its trying to import.
For me this is a big showstopper as most of my mp3 collection is on cd or dvd and this is a pain in the bum.
Googling for the error produced nothing of any use, so its goodbye musicmatch and hello winamp for the time being I think.
Shame. |

| reply to gate1975mlm I see the white dot also. I went into task manager and ended the mim.exe process and the dot disappeared. I also noticed that with musicmatch 10, when you load the program up, after 30 seconds the program freezes for about 2 minutes and at the bottom it says "checking for compnent updates". then after 2 mintes it says checking cancelled , but i didnt cancel it. Also, most times that I try to edit track info in musicmatch 10, an error occurs and the program is shut down. This upgrade is shit. I want Musicmatch 9 back. too many bugs in 10. |

I've used a paid version of MM for years & loved it. When I bought a win/iPod a few years ago, MM was bundled with it. I was a happy camper til Apple dropped iTunes on the world -- the mmApple marriage went to divorce court!
I didn't care too much because the music ripped to my hard drive is from my own cd library, not downloaded tune$. But I'm royally screwed now because MM.10 quit recognizing the iPod as a device, which it did up until this version of the jukebox.
I get similar error messages noted in this thread about mim.exe. Attempts to shut down result in the system hanging on mim.exe as well as ShellconHiddenWindow. My music library is located on a big Maxtor removable drive, so attempting to sync the iPod is impossible and it causes a "Delayed Write Failure" message to appear along with the heartening message that, "all data is lost."
Just to make my misery complete, when I reboot, the auto-enable option for Norton AV no longer works!! I hope the win/xp system restore works.
I guess the only way I'll ever get out of this mess with the iPod investment intact is to switch over to the Apple iTunes jukebox -- cause those days of "playing nice" are long gone.
If all of this was "freebie ware" I wouldn't be so pissed off. But IMO it's a blatant ripoff for Apple and Musicmatch not to provide a backward compatibility plugin for existing customers. |

| reply to funnyfingers I also have the problem of V10 showing the splash screen and then crashing. All previous versions worked fine. I have the paid version plus future upgrades. Asked about a refund but was ignored. So far I have been pointed at 3 patched versions of V10 - all of which have had the same problem. I've gone back to V9 but now seriously considering giving up on Musicmatch and going to a competitor's product - maybe even Microsoft!!! |

| AT this point, it is not white dot, it is not the bloatware, it is not the loss of features, it is not the insertion of software that runs hidden without our permission. It is not the host of "glitches" that have cropped up. The reason I will never lay out one more red cent, upgrade one more version (ver 8 works for me thank you very much)? Simple respect. I paid a large sum of money for the "privilege" of lifetime upgrades. It lasted exactly ZERO upgrades. I clearly and politely asked for refund (see my last post for date), and it took them this long to give me erroneous tech support and finally mention another department to contact for a refund. They KNOW there is a problem. Yet, they FURTHER inconvenience the user of their product. This is unacceptable in my humble opinion. What do you all think? |

I have had a problem with MM 10 not re-loading without re-booting my computer. I found out that mim.exe will not stop when you end Music Match 10, and blocks it the next time you try to load it without a reboot. I have to go into task manager and manually end the task. Below is the stupid E-Mail replies from Music Match support on the issue
DFX installed alright, but will not run until I re-install musicmatch:
I re-installed musicmatch 10, and got the upgrade to musicmatch10 plus, and it doesn't recognize that I have DFX. It only shows the option to download sound enhancements.
Also, after reinstalling and playing, then closing the program. It will not reload. I get the musicmatch 10 splash box for a while, then it goes away and the program won't load.
I restarted my computer and got the message in task manager that it cannot > > end \'ShellconHiddenWindow\'. I had to manually end the program that would not end.
Upon restart, musicmatch 10 would load and run. After closing the program, and then ending the process mim.exe in Windows Task Manager, musicmatch 10 would load again with no problem. This also fixed the 'ShellconHiddenWindow' problem on shutdown/restart.
It seems that the process mim.exe that is loaded in the system by musicmatch 10 is the problem. It won't end after the program is closed. And also it won't end on shutdown.

After you uninstalled Musicmatch, did you then try to install DFX?

Just found that the latest version (without the white dot) has yet another "feature";) If you've already started MM, you can kill the mim.exe from the task manager and MM v10 will still continue to run (regardless of whether or not your logged in). Now you get a lovely C++ Runtime error when attempting to mouse over or select the "Options" menu item. Killing the error window kills the player
Another thought on that darn dot....if you take a look in the Music Match program files, you'll notice numerous 1 pixel .gif images, and well as 1 pixel blank .html pages in the HTML and Graphics directories. Is it really gone...or merely now a transparent .gif? |

| reply to howie Musicmatch 10 - Too many bugs!
Ive used Musicmatch since version 8 and I found version 9 to be stable, although only 3 very ugly skins were available (incidentally, anyone know how to get hold of some other skins for version 9?). I recently updated to version 10 and have since experienced so many problems that Ive reverted to 9. The last reply I received from Muscimatch tech support is as follows :-
Hello,
Thank you for your reply and additional information.
We have forwarded the details regarding the trouble you are having to our product development team for further analysis and review. If they are aware of a solution or workaround, we will get back to you with their recommendation immediately. Otherwise, your issue will be tracked in our database and we will let you know as soon as we have a solution for the difficulty you are experiencing.
The bugs Ive found so far: -
1)Musicmatch crashes if I attempt to use my mouse wheel to scroll 2)Cd playback is heavily distorted for the first 20 seconds 3)Certain play-lists cannot be re-loaded
Has anyone else experienced any of these?
Despite the bugs, and not even taking into consideration that Ipods are no longer supported, the fact that Musicmatch 10 no longer supports multiple libraries is enough reason for me to revert to 9.
Having paid the lifetime membership, I just hope Musicmatch 11 is free from these problems. Until then its ugly but functional version 9 for me.
If anyone is looking for old versions of Musicmatch then this link tech support provided me with is an archive of all versions after 7.00.0149 : -

Thanks for the older version link... I saved it. I don't have the issues you have, but do get the now infamous "dot" as well as mim.exe error messages. They can keep version 10. It's so buggy they should include a can of Raid! -- "I'm as sure as I can be... without any, you know, proof!" - Adrian Monk |

| reply to howie I'm still using 7.50.1026 (Plus) on my main box. With that whole library of past versions now available for downloading (thank you jdyp, by the way), is there any particular version worth upgrading too? What does, say, version 8.2.0131 have or do that my present 7.5 version doesn't? And what makes version 9.00.0159 the *best* yet? Just curious. |

Has anyone had an issue with MMJB 10+ not being able to make an internet connection? The connection works fine with every other application, but MMJB won't let me log in, view my account, access the radio, the store or on-demand. "Tech" Support has No F[reaking] Clue. I uninstalled 10, and installed 9, same deal. I uninstalled 9 and installed 8(.20) and it works JUST FINE!
If you are below 8.2, PLEASE be careful upgrading!!! |

Here is a temporary solution for the loading issues and mim:
download pstools »www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freew···ls.shtml extract it to c:\pstools
create a file called mmjb.bat in notepad and paste the following:
c:\pstools\pskill -t mim.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t mm_director.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t MM_TDM~1.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t MMDiag.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t mmjb.exe "C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mmjb.exe" c:\pstools\pskill -t mim.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t mm_director.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t MM_TDM~1.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t MMDiag.exe c:\pstools\pskill -t mmjb.exe
change your shortcut for MMJB to point to the script
Mod edit: .exe file removed, replaced with link to source |
