highspeed chatroom hosting problems

hello there. my friends are having problems hosting chatrooms. they are using highspeed internet. no one can enter their rooms. bell says to shut down firewalls. this does not seem to work. is there aport that should be opened
according to bell only port's 25 & 26 mail port's are blocked. i am not alone i know of 4 other user's with the same problem. does anyone have any suggestions on how to open the door's for ppl to enter my chatroom.

Does the router have port forwarding or DMZ? you could open up the ports needed then for your chat server to work. Do you know what ports the server uses?

i can get the port #'s that need to be opened. and yes i have found the place for that now i need them to open that page i am working on that now. they wont be able to do that till tommorrow. find the home page to open these ports. i am on a router linksys so yes i know about the dmz and gaming applications. my problem is finding that page and where it is exactly that needs to be accessed. for my router is different than theres. if you could let me know where like dmz and any other port that needs opening also do they need to shut down their router protection.

thank you

I think the router config page is located at »192.168.0.1 or »192.168.1.1 There should be tabs for port forwarding and DMZ.

If you are using the 5200 modem built-in connection, the ports are blocked.

Disable the 5200 connection and use the software connection on your OS to connect instead. The other way is to get a router to make the connection.

It's only when the 5200 connection is disabled that the ports are not blocked.

You do realize that hosting chatrooms off your dsl connection is not good as you get a new ip everytime to connect to the internet, in events of power failures, or modem resets and such... Updaing a dns record to point to you all the time takes 24 hours to refresh and circulate around the internet.

You are better off trying to find a shell that allows irc servers instead. Check out »www.shellsearch.com/ for good prices on running an ircd server!

Just a suggestion.
