To keep 6016/608 from 2004 for $44.95, do nothing!

Mod note from November, 2005:

SBC now offers a 6 mb plan for $49.95 again. As such, losing this "grandfathered" plan isn't the big deal it once was. You won't keep the pricing if you move. It'll cost you $5 more a month. Deal with it.

---------------------------------------------------------

During the first quarter of 2004 there was a limited-time offering of 1536-6016/384-608 speeds for approximately $44.95/month + USF fee.

This was in the billing system as up to 3000kbps and was there before the profile of 1536-3008/384-512 speeds. So people got the 1536-6016/384-608 speeds.

If you do any of the following.... you will be bumped from the package and we would not under any circumstances be able to return it back to the original speeds you had.

• Move
• call in wanting a cheaper rate on your service, or take a promotional ADSL package or offer.
• Cancel/disconnect your DSL
• Disconnected non-pay

This is a "grandfathered" package, and was a one-time,not-to-be-repeated, (at least anytime soon) offer.. The other wrinkle in this, was the sales office only knew it went up to 3000kbps. That was all that was in their system, in their system, but was not in ASI's at the time. So people got the "once in a lifetime" opportunity when they ordered..

Another thing is this is a permanent contract. As long as you do not change, it is yours for as long as you can keep it. So at the end of 12 months, you do not have to call, IM or post in direct about re-upping or renewing. However, if you do after 12 months you will or can only be able to get 1536-3008/384-512 speeds.

I hope this makes sense to everyone, and to avoid confusion

Mod-edit: Title changed to be more direct and forceful. Also, updated the message to reflect early 2004 instead of "earlier this year" as it is no longer 2004.

Also, see my note at the end of this thread.

Nope, just leave it alone! Unless you don't like the speeds & the price for them then change it. But understand, once you do this, it will never return!!

Re: Something that should be noted: (speed pkg)

I concur with ross96's suggestion earlier in the thread of not discussing it. If you've made any changes, tough luck, you should have paid better attention. If you haven't? Don't. Don't try to renew. It is supposed to take care of itself.

Only if it doesn't, should something be done, and then, through this forum. We've had whys, and what ifs all during the past year, and the answer's been the same.

Let's leave it for SBC to screw up or get right on their own.

That was pretty much what we were all told last winter. In fact, that is exactly what we were told...

I know but so far I have been getting one a week, toaster got this one...

"I called to re-up my contract to the $36.99 price point and my speeds have went down... what happend??"

They are all disgruntled at us because they called for a cheaper price, and thier speeds drops because of it. After we advise them what did it, they are even more pissed.

I also see topics as to "When will the $44.95 speeds be back... please I really want it"
As much as we would like to give it to you (within reason of course, line support it and such) we cannot make it reappear.

Re: Something that should be noted: (speed pkg)

Some people don't read. No matter what you post you'll still have those folks who simply cannot follow simple directions like: "You have to do nothing, and don't try to change anything."

At some point you just have to wash your hands of them.
