| Extend Wireless network to wired devices
I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but I'm taking the cheaters way out and asking again...
I have a cable modem , hooked to wireless SMC router with ethernet ports. I have PC's hooked to the ethernet ports and use a laptop in my house for the wireless access on other floors. Now I'd like to get other PC's that have wired NICs in them on other floors online. WHat wireless device am I looking for that extends the wireless to other floors and have ethernet ports available on it to use? Do I need another router that I turn into some sort of wireless/wired hub? Hope I've given enough info. THanks in advance for advice |

| reply to valvoj Let me add Something to the Sound advice from "spie34" Not only can you use PCi Cards, but you can Alo get USB Wireless adaptors. Some people like them , some Dont. In My case they worked better for me. The Reason Is that Unlike a PCI Card that is fixed, Most USB Adaptors are attached by wire so they can be positioned for best Signal. Just another option

| I know I could install wireless cards in them, but that isn't what I was looking for. I would like to enhance my wireless connection in another location and have the ability for my ethernet PC's to connect also. I've looked thru the forum so far and it looks like only 2 linksys routers can do what I'm looking for. |

| What you describe is a wireless "bridge" that would wirelessly connect to your existing wireless router, and deliver some wired ethernet ports to the second location. Look for a router that has a capability of being set to "bridge mode."
Far cheaper, and probably faster performance too, would be a cat-5 wire from your exising router to a new hub or router. There is wire rated for running inside A/C ducts and air returns. |
