Re: home wireless network

You need to establish an LOS connection. This could be done by the following.

a. a pair of directional antennas
(nothing too fancy, some directional outdoor patch would work) - for the far away friends house, would probably need low end parabolic antennas.
b. a pair of ethernet adaptor bridges, one at either end to attach to the antennas, one to tx the internet signal the other to rcve it and pass it on to either a switch, or An AP to retransmit wireless. YOu could also get a dual radio unit here instead one to receive and one to retx.

The important thing is to get the adaptors close to the antennas for minimal losses.

The same thing can be done to his friends house!!
